US issues first-ever private moon flight license

Moon Express, a Florida-based company with headquarters in Cape Canaveral, has finally won US government clearance to send commercial and scientific missions to the moon. Elon Musk’s space company would need a similar license to fly missions to Mars.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is already responsible for issuing credentials for commercial rocket launches in the US, has been recognized as the authority overseeing private missions beyond Earth's orbit.

NASA is going to act as adviser to Moon Express, but would not regulate its activities on the moon's surface.

According to the 1967 Outer Space Treaty, the US bears international responsibility for any space flights performed from its territory by national non-government entities.

USGS has a 4.4 AFTER the above downgraded 4.4 to a 3.5. USGS has that now 3.5 as a 3.4 (see updated time on the EMSC link plus the USGS link to their 3.4 here [link to earthquake.usgs.gov]

Edit: This all changed. USGS downgraded the 4.4 above to 4.0 and is the same EQ as the now 4.4 from EMSC (which at first was downgraded to 3.5). USGS has a separate 3.4 listed. Times were updated on both EMSC and USGS.

upgrades happen sometimes but it appears downgrades are more frequent
