I'm going to get banned because I am going to start cursing out the idiots here.

The government creates jobs ALL THE TIME. We spend a trillion dollars a year on the military industrial complex - which in turn pays the salaries of the corporate employees, which in turn makes the shareholders (the TOP) massive profits. Not only do we create jobs but we create profits.

The wars in the middle east created millions of jobs and generated billions of profit for corporations. You know the two wars that we fought on the basis of lies.

The bush tax cuts were sold on job creation - where the fuck are the jobs asshole? The Bush Tax cuts will cost us 3 trillion dollars. We could have taken that money and created infrastructure jobs and not only solved the infrastructure problem but also stimulated the domestic economy. Over the next decade the tax cuts will cost us 1 trillion dollars - all that money is NOT being invested in America or in job creation. It is either consolidating wealth or being invested overseas.

No, They do not create. They take from one group to give to another.

Government does NOT create. When you get that through your head, you will progress. Until then, continue to play the victim, continue to look to uncle sam to solve your problems.

Doesn't affect me if you want to worship the state.

You've got it bass ackwards. The government is the ONLY ONE who creates economic progress in American history...usually by funding private enterprise/research to actually execute the task itself.

The federal government funded either wholly or in part:

-the railroads.
-the semi-conducting microprocessor.
-Teflon
-Velcro
-pretty much everything Dow chemical and 3M has ever done.
-synthetic insulation
-the interstate highway system.
-the telephone lines.
-the power grid.
-the Internet
-GPS
-photovoltaic cells.
-communications protocols of all kinds
-modern commercial air travel
-UNIX
-CT scans & MRI's
-...and about 20 million other things you take for granted.

That line I bolded, is literally the dumbest thing I have EVER heard. Private citizens create, not the government.

Just because they stole money from people to throw at these different projects doesn't mean they "created" them. You are a braindead statist.

and what does our government destroy???

they are taking productive money out of the private sector.

they have grown far too large and inefficient.

EPA/OSHA(insert any gov regulation here) regs make it expensive to do business here. Of course companies will move production to cheaper and less regulated environments. stupid not too.

social engineering through tax code. corporations pay no or little tax because the tax code is so full of holes......

deficit spending by government increases costs for all borrowing.

destruction of wealth by endless printing of money.

should I keep going?
 Quoting: Brown Chicken Brown Cow

Oh...of course. The government does a lot of really fucked up things too. However, issuing blanket statements like "we should get rid of the EPA" is fucking moronic.

Yes...lobbyists have infiltrated the organization and made diesel fuel much more expensive due to rather silly low-sulphur requirements.

...however they are also the only thing standing between you and a bunch of carcinogens in your municipal water supply.

Are the "raw milk raids" on Amish people bullshit? Of course...yet I sure am glad SOMEBODY is checking to see that the food we buy in the grocery store has minimal amounts of rat feces in it.

Seeking to improve governance is desperately needed. Pretending that we don't need a government at all is delusional.

Report: U.S. Spent $3.7 Trillion on Welfare Over Last 5 Years

[link to www.weeklystandard.com]

"We have just concluded the 5th fiscal year since President Obama took office. During those five years, the federal government has spent a total $3.7 trillion on approximately 80 different means-tested poverty and welfare programs. The common feature of means-tested assistance programs is that they are graduated based on a person’s income and, in contrast to programs like Social Security or Medicare, they are a free benefit and not paid into by the recipient," says the minority side of the Senate Budget Committee.

"The enormous sum spent on means-tested assistance is nearly five times greater than the combined amount spent on NASA, education, and all federal transportation projects over that time. ($3.7 trillion is not even the entire amount spent on federal poverty support, as states contribute more than $200 billion each year to this federal nexus—primarily in the form of free low-income health care.)

 Quoting: Ag47

Sure it's the same thing, sure it is....and what you don't see is the 3.7 trillion dollars are the camps and railcars the Germans built for the Jews.

Have a look at this video to see there is no difference to the effect of government handout on people at the top and people at the bottom..

The really sad thing is, you don't see the link between this behavior, the bank bailouts, and the REAL cause of both.

Re: U.S. Has Spent $3.7 TRILLION on Welfare Under Obama
here we go again another thread on welfare when people won't except the only real solution and that is sterilization and eugenics! Death panels and eugenics we as a society need to implement a brave new world or everyone needs to shut up. Technology and cheap labor have caused this problem. There isn't jobs for uneducated masses or that many even for the educated thanks to out sourcing. When can we deal with the problem? You either need to except eugenics or come up with a different reward system altogether. This number would be the same no matter who is in charge unless the person in charge really wants to make a very tough decision.

Does the 3.7 include section 8 housing? That program does nothing but destroy apartment complexes around here as most of the residence steal everything, tear up surrounding properties and make the area dangerous at night.

Also we do nothing to discourage welfare mothers from having more children. You should only be allowed to collect for 2 kids. You can have a tribe as it is now and you the government will fit the bill, for food, housing and medical care and later on jail for all the bad ones.

Most of the poor countries have too many people to support a healthy lifestyle. When you have an abundance of labor you don't have to pay them much because they can be replaced.

In the news they are saying as interest rates increase and wages stay stagnate house sales are expected to decline. If you can't get a decent paying job then you can't get a house or rent an apartment.

We can do nothing and eventually turn communist because there is no way to take care of everyone or we can encourage women to hold the line at two kids. If all else fails it will become a world like China where forced abortion become a necessity.

And then there is the ethanol lie which has led to higher food prices and gas mileage that goes down. Ethanol was just a way to make corporate farms more profitable.

Why even do that?

Why not place the children for adoption in a home where they will have an opportunity to learn something other than leeching off of others? Or an orphanage where they could learn vocational training?

I spent over a decade as a social worker, and I know exactly how welfare people live. The kids do not have a chance to learn anything productive. All they learn is dependency.

Productive people are good for society but it is, has been, and always will be, Necessity that drives the inventive spirit of man. Take away Necessity and the only thing left to direct a mans footsteps towards wealth of any kind is GREED. Be it in the form of a bank account with 6 or more zeros acquired via a government funded bailout, govenment funded weapons contract, or a shopping cart full of food via a broken government funded EBT card.

Show me a man that lives for the greater good because he's productive and I will show you a man who only sees what he want to see.

Dare I ask how many solar power panels you have, how much water you squeeze from the air, and how much Hydroponic farming you do? And how much of this productive lifestyle you live do you share with the "poor" or less fortunate?

I also don't think this is an attack on the poor, well at least not by most people. The majority of people who receive these benefits need them. There are obviously a bunch of people who abuse the system and create a bad name for everyone buts that true for all groups in society. The specific issue I have is with the families that receive $40,000+ in assistance. That's nearly the median income for families in the US. Hawaii's was up to 49k, that's 1,000 less than median household income. I don't really call that assistance, it's a salary. With benefits this large, it doesn't encourage anyone to advance themselves and move forward with their lives. Why would anyone work a menial job, when the assistance provides much more than most basic jobs? I mean honestly, who's going to choose a shit job and a shit salary over $40k free dollars in assistance? There needs to be an incentive to get off government assistance and take control of your own destiny. The system needs to be revamped. Shit, the majority of the programs the government has created need to be revamped. We need to spend less time pointing fingers, ( it's the poors fault, you spend more on war, etc), and try to come up with solutions.

.... Wait...I am confused why in the process of being called a douche by a complete stranger that I am supposed to automatically agree with you. No its not obvious because my life has been a mixed bag. Please explain to me this notion of sudden submission.

Hi its called being an individual.. you want people to stop beinv lazy..then why don't you give someone a job. Why don't you go through all the buissness courses take all the buisness classes. ( using tax payer federal grants) and start something productive. Oh and by the way..when you start to make money.. you have to report to the same system you complain about.
 Quoting: Debte 17672606

That says it all about how the world is supposed to work in the eyes of the victimized liberal...

You, the person other than me, are supposed to solve my financial problems by either giving me free money, or giving me a job, either way it's up to YOU to fix MY problems.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32887461

The TOP gets free money all the time.

Corporate welfare (free money), bank bailouts (free money), corporate bailouts (free money), bank deregulation (free money), fed discount window (free money)...

Not to mention all the crap we spend on things that are not real. Like the "war on terror" and the "war on drugs".

We have 1000 military bases all over the globe protecting corporate interests - and you pay for it. Complain about that before you start on the poor.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47820629

How is that relevant?.. it's a completely different issue. You cannot claim to care for the "poor" by demonizing what you call the "TOP".

A bucket with holes at the "TOP" will not hold water any better by also putting holes at the bottom. The opposite is actually true and water is lost even faster because you now have holes in the bottom.

Leave the bottom and fix the "TOP".. We are not making the world better, more fair, more wealthy for ANYONE by drilling holes at the bottom simply because there are holes at the "TOP"
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 32887461

"the parable of a bucket"

nice anecdote
except the very wealthy
want holes on top too
providing us deadweight
more service jobs
pouring water into the bucket
collected from our tears
served to the sitting rich
getting drunk from overflow
while most of humanity
dies from slow dehydration
driven by the fear of thirst
