Why is it so foggy on the west coast these days?

Dunno, Might have something to do with Fukushima killing all sealife? Maybe sea life kept the fog down????

I am on one of the islands off Vancouver Island near the Comox valley, and it's been foggy here for a week. We suspect it's the warming trend, as in more humidity is evaporated off the ocean and then just hovers there due to the colder atmosphere temperature.

I am told this has never happened before. Hmmm. What will the winter itself be like, if there is an excess of air humidity? Tons and tons of snow?

Im just outside of vancouver too. Was just looking out the window commenting to my husband that this much fog is not normal. Its not really burning off during the middle of the day either.....hmmmmm

It's foggy as hell every day here too. Today was better, but was foggy every day for the past 5. Sandpoint, ID.

Sorry to undoom , but this is very normal. Our ferry boats have fog horns for a reason...

I sure hope not! Oddly enough, the night before I first woke up to this fog, I dreamt of snow!

Normally the fog is gone by mid-morning. I look out my window now and it's still foggy as fuck.

I'm not trying to scream Doom, but it just isn't common to see it the way we have lately.

It's not just the coast. I'm on the BC/Alberta border and the fog has been lasting till around 1pm for the last 4/5 days. It's definitely strange, one minute you can't see across the street and it feels like early AM, and the next it's sunny bluebird skies till dark.

Seattle is known for it’s gray skies and rainy weather, but experts say the dense fog and temperatures in the 40s or 50s that have blanketed the city over the past several days is out of the ordinary.

Cliff Mass, a University of Washington Meteorologist writes on his blog, “I have forecast here for many decades and I can not remember a situation that is even close.”

The cause, according to Mass, is an odd combination of long-lasting high pressure, drought, and dense low clouds. In short, the high pressure on either side of the city is trapping colder air in the middle, close to the ground. The result? Fog, and lots of it.

Foggy? As in how, like fog?

semi normal sea tac and portland airports used to shut down from fog for days in the 70s-80s.

here on Whidbey Island the fog is just down near the water. If you go to 1 or 2 hundred feet above the water in Puget Sound its clear and sunny.

Foggy as hell , all week.

its to cover up the really bright sun.

Southern Oregon coast here. I've been here for about 19 years. And this time of year, overnight fog has always been quite common. Not trying to argue with you. Just giving you my own observations over a 19 year period.
