Sending your kids to school is child abuse.

Even if you work full time, it is not hard to home school your children with only a couple of hours a day. Because modern schooling sucks so bad you can greatly decrease the time necessary.

I don't understand how so much food is needed during a 6 hour period... I recall eating lunch in school, and that was plenty.

Count your blessings if your kid doesn't have fatal food allergies. For about 10% parents in the country the thought of sending their kid to school is a scary thought everyday. You may never know when an 'innocent' cookie your son's friend brought from home will turn into an ER room visit.

We had a lice epidemic at our school. I wanted to know why the administration was not sending people with lice home to get cleaned up.
The principals answer was, "I am afraid they wouldn't get their breakfast or lunch." I about fell over. What has happened that somehow the state feels that it is totally their responsibility? I mean I understand when people are poor and needing help, but when the state feels totally responsible and that the parents can't even find a way to get a sandwitch for their own kids, then we have nanny state at its most intrusive.

Now I've heard everything. This is insane. I had to add a post to the convo, and I've never even been a parent (going on 60 this May)!!

One of the simple joys in life growing up was seeing Mom or Dad make/pack your lunches. Another simple joy opening them up at lunch time after waiting all morning for your lunch break. As simple of an act as it is, it's a bonding act. It MEANS something. It's a family unit/pack thing. And now (this is probably only the beginning) they're trying to take it away. This simple joy.

To replace it with over processed meats stuffed with who knows what sort of fillers, instant potatoes, 'Velveeta' laden mac and cheese....YET!!! This pre-school finds it alright to offer as a treat "Push-up" bars?? What about those students who's parents don't believe in letting their kids ingest all that food coloring? Hasn't food coloring been associated with ADD, etc? As well as allergies? They're conveniently ignoring that little reality.

I really feel for you parents these days. I would not want to be put in the position of fighting the system every day like so many of you seem to have to. I tip my hat to you all.

This story was on a meal sent for a federally funded preschool program not for kindergarten and up.I bucked this part of the same system when my special needs child started the program.He has several food interferences so we send him eggs/meat and fresh fruit the coordinator/school nurse had a fit.They wanted to know where he was getting his other minerals and vitamins one being calcium because he eats no dairy and I told them from a very good powdered vitamin.The thing I find funny about this is the they worry about what he may not be getting from eating fresh food nothing processed or from a box but have no concern about all the additives,corn syrup,breads,coatings and all the other crap they serve these little people.They wonder why there is so my hyperactivity and behavior issues.

Why? So they can feed the kids crap with all sorts of fillers? Are they going to pay for the lunches or let the government do it?

You should teach your about his/her allergies so they dont have to ruin it for the other kids.
