Quoting: Anonymous Coward 48794526 Even if you work full time, it is not hard to home school your children with only a couple of hours a day. Because modern schooling sucks so bad you can greatly decrease the time necessary. Not. And sending my child to public school is not child abuse. Full of garbage. |

Quoting: Sledster All at taxpayer cost. I don't understand how so much food is needed during a 6 hour period... I recall eating lunch in school, and that was plenty. Here the schools I know of are 7 to 8 hrs long. But I do recall in 1996 when my daughter had a halloween party at school and I brought home made cupcakes that they told me they only allow store bought stuff. I was like WTF? I did end up homeschooling my children though. |

Count your blessings if your kid doesn't have fatal food allergies. For about 10% parents in the country the thought of sending their kid to school is a scary thought everyday. You may never know when an 'innocent' cookie your son's friend brought from home will turn into an ER room visit. You should teach your about his/her allergies so they dont have to ruin it for the other kids. |

But, I think the concern here is that this could/will be a trend. Think it's not possible with all the infringements we've already seen on a persons rights? from the link provided it doesnt appear that the Gov says that kids cannot take lunches to school, just that particular preschool Quoting: Anonymous Coward 29493707 Last Edited by ~ hannah~ on 10/23/2013 06:48 PM |

The principals answer was, "I am afraid they wouldn't get their breakfast or lunch." I about fell over. What has happened that somehow the state feels that it is totally their responsibility? I mean I understand when people are poor and needing help, but when the state feels totally responsible and that the parents can't even find a way to get a sandwitch for their own kids, then we have nanny state at its most intrusive. violet |

This is insane. I had to add a post to the convo, and I've never even been a parent (going on 60 this May)!! Quoting: hannah50 One of the simple joys in life growing up was seeing Mom or Dad make/pack your lunches. Another simple joy opening them up at lunch time after waiting all morning for your lunch break. As simple of an act as it is, it's a bonding act. It MEANS something. It's a family unit/pack thing. And now (this is probably only the beginning) they're trying to take it away. This simple joy. To replace it with over processed meats stuffed with who knows what sort of fillers, instant potatoes, 'Velveeta' laden mac and cheese....YET!!! This pre-school finds it alright to offer as a treat "Push-up" bars?? What about those students who's parents don't believe in letting their kids ingest all that food coloring? Hasn't food coloring been associated with ADD, etc? As well as allergies? They're conveniently ignoring that little reality. I really feel for you parents these days. I would not want to be put in the position of fighting the system every day like so many of you seem to have to. I tip my hat to you all. My mom always packed my lunch and in it a little note. The note always ended with "Daddy and I love you." No matter how bad a day I was having I always looked forward to the note, if not always the lunch...lol |

Quoting: geminilion One thing that strikes me is if they are on the look out or things that kids are allergic to, which could be anything, just how limited are they with what the school can serve? Isn't it better for each individual to take responsibility for their own dietary needs and pack what they can eat rather than the school trying to accommodate everyone? |
