He seems to pronounce it NIE-jer, though, and I think the country is pronounced knee-ZHAIR. This is pretty scary. It's not like they're cutting people off. They're cutting benefits by an average of $36, and they think they need extra security for that?! He seems to pronounce it NIE-jer, though, and I think the country is pronounced knee-ZHAIR. Correct. It is french for 'black', and the name of both a country and a river in Africa. Mr Innis' name is Americanised pronunciation "NIE-jer" the 'Ni' rhyming with 'eye', whereas the African country and river are nee-ZHAIR, the french pronunciation. Until a few years ago in the US, the name of the country was also pronounced NIE-jer, but now has commonly been replaced with the french pronunciation. It's a legitimate name, after a river in Africa. Interestingly, there is a kind of seed used for bird seed called Niger (black seeds). But lately I have noticed sacks labeled Nijer. According to a solicitation posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website, the Federal Protective Service (a unit of the DHS), is looking for a contractor to supply armed Protective Security Officers (PSOs) to guard a variety of government buildings in the region, including “IRS buildings(s) during tax season.” |

"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 48184497 United States 10/23/2013 04:22 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There shouldn't be a riot for small cuts. What I'm thinking is that note that was sent to states suggesting they hold funding because the Fed can't pay them back because of the shutdown. Now, no more shutdown BUT I wonder if there will be delays for people getting the ebt moneys from any states that took that advice. Surely, it would delay release of money, I would think. |
