Got any proof other than NASA or other space agencies that "This happens every 11 years?"

To measure the sun's magnetic field with amateur equipment is very difficult. You need a large aperture telescope to gather enough light for spectroscopy, then you need a special type of polarizing spectroscope called a stellar spectropolarimeter. The Zeeman effect shows the magnetic field strength by the splitting of the absorption lines in the polarimeter.
