Not only do birds, such as the reported blackbirds, pelicans, penguins and eagles, lose their bearings and fall dead from exhaustion and hunger, but radio transmissions can be lost, there can be radiation from too much solar power, and high-energy charged particles can bombard the Earth due to the breach in the magnetic "shield" wrapping the planet.. Magnetic storms can also trigger changes in the Earth's crust, which may lead to increases in landslides, mudslides, earthquakes, and volcano eruptions". also "3 x sun flares have occurred recently...eyes open and thanks for openbible link |

Racing homing pigeons navigate incredible distances with apparent ease. A champion racing pigeon can be released 400 miles from its home loft, in a place it has never been before, and return within 1 day. The last 40 miles of its journey, the bird navigates by sight. But over the other 360 miles, the pigeon determines its way home by "sensing" the Earth's magnetic fields. We are not yet sure exactly how this mechanism works, but it does work -- extremely well. How can the Sun affect racing pigeons? When there is especially strong activity on the Sun, such as a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), unusually strong surges of solar wind (charged particles from the Sun) can create a geomagnetic storm which distorts the Earth's normal magnetic field. The pigeons can no longer rely on their normal guidance system and may become lost. Thus wise pigeon racers, especially those in very northern areas, keep track of solar activity and do not fly their birds under certain geomagnetic conditions. [link to solar-center.stanford.edu] |

Fact of life for our feathered darlings. In fact this happens more when they're competing for a food source like bird feeders. True. Not magical though. |

DawaSatso User ID: 47348908 United States 10/28/2013 11:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Sounds t'me like there's a predator around. They get loud and hit windows when that happens. Here in CO it is Kitterils or sparrow hawks and other smaller hawks that are attracted to activity where a variety of birds feed. This happens here every 3-4 weeks, and the behavior of your birds does sound like a reaction to sudden predator ambush. Could also be a cat. Sparrows have a special language for 'cat' warning which sounds like "ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka-ka"..if you hear that you can bet there's a cat somewhere around too close for comfort. [link to solar-center.stanford.edu] older article but good Migration and Solar Activity Birds and many other animals are known to use the Earth's magnetic field to orientate. Birds for example at night, and whales out at sea. It is also known that disruptions to this magnetic field occur from time to time, but the effect these have on animal migration is a matter of conjecture. Maybe the birds ringed (banded) during the 'Hummingbird Festival' will provide some clues. Will their routes south be any different this year? [link to suite101.com] |
