AC 97175, perhaps you never learned how to read? This event is being widely reported on Chicago radio and TV as well as both major Chicago newspapers' Web sites. My hyperlink is to the Chicago Tribune.

I am amazed by the absolute and utter stupidity of people like AC 97175 who raise a BS flag without even bothering to check the hyperlink.

I wish those who raised only the BS flag without making a comment as to why they did that would be banned.

Re: Suspicious package across street from Sears Tower
oh please please listen to this story .. it was HILARIOUS!

okay so back on Whiteman AFB, after 911, when all pkgs suspicious were reported, a neighbor comes home, sees a large box left on her doorstep *

Doesnt recognize the company it came from so she calls base security. They come, rope off the street, call in the bomb squad dept! (had friend in that dept btw) and they take the box to a safe area and i shyt you not

it had a BARNEY DOLL inside!!!

rofl

She forgot she sent in some diaper points and this was the "prize" 1doh1

Thing was, her husband was a base cop and these guys had to be cool and not laugh at her straight out! omg we laughed for WEEKS!!!

and yes yes I know, what if it had been a BOMB! but honestly, it was a needed break in all the "up in arms" mentality and afterward it became a good story to tell when ya got panicky or stressed over the mood post-911

* yah so worried on pkgs, that UPS was allowed to leave things on your doorstep

The police obviously thought the situation today serious enough to rope off the area.

I will continue to be jittery about the Sears Tower as long as it is owned by the infamous Larry Silverstein, of "Pull it!" fame:

Oddly, the police are not providing specifics about the package, despite a 2-hour street blockage:

The package was found around 4 p.m. at 200 S. Wacker Dr. and police had blocked streets near the location to pedestrians and traffic for about two hours, police officer Kristina Schuler said. The situation was secured as of 7:30 p.m., but police could not immediately provide specifics about the package.

Police now say it was a hoax. But their reaction shows that they, too, are jittery:

Chicago Police Bomb and Arson officials detonated a package at a Loop office building today which appeared to be an explosive device but was later determined to be a hoax.

A woman working at an office building on the 200 block of South Wacker Drive received the package around 4 p.m. and recognized the return address as "suspicious," Chicago Police Officer JoAnn Taylor said.

She called 911. Officials responded to the scene and after examining it, thought it was an explosive device. After further investigation, Bomb and Arson detectives concluded the package contained a cell phone and loose wires.

"The entire situation appears to be a hoax," Taylor said, and added that the situation may be work-related. The package was detonated without any injuries being reported. The investigation into who sent the package continues tonight, she said.

Traffic was closed to pedestrians and vehicles for several blocks around the site during the afternoon rush hour and several CTA buses had to be re-routed due to street closures, officials said.

Kitty love, I don't think the troll comment was directed at you hf

The Barney doll story was good, I remember how jumpy everyone was right after 9/11.

This situation in Chicago, makes you wonder who is stupid enough to make up little hoaxes like that, when they would be so looked down upon and in trouble if they were caught.
