Remember guys..TPTB have to let you know what they are going to do before they do it. The U.S and U.K blackout docudramas are A HUGE WARNING on what is about to occur soon seeing this coincides with the Grid Ex II drills in the middle of November. I am very thankful for TPTB for these WARNINGS because if the power were to every go out within the next month, I will getting my preps in order and bugging out by DAY 1-2 at the latest.If you have seen both versions then you guys should know what would happen to you if you are still in a city or a populated dense area after DAY 3

I thought it was interesting in that it showed different types of people and their reactions to the blackout. It showed how fast things would breakdown and how some would react. The guy that was going to file a lawsuit was so helpless. Those people didn't even have something to open a can.

And would you really leave all your fuel storage out in the open in a shed if you were holed up in your secure bunker?

I thought the show was pretty weak, and they should have shown us in the middle of the country starting our generators before checking in with the neighbors, having a beer then going home to watch some videos while stoking the wood stove. If it went on more than 10 days they could have shown the flyover folks banding together and keeping the city slickers out of our Area of Operations.

I thought with the prepper guy that he was on the correct path but even those prepared still have weak areas. Yes, his fuel was wide open but at least he had it. He had food but his security was lacking. He had a bunker but it seemed that only the father and the youngest were willing to do anything.

Well yeah i agree, in that sense you are correct but either way, it does show how dumb most of the people are.

Example #1, the elevator morans, they make it to the roof to find the door is locked. The camera shows a large pile of cinder blocks like 5 times, hmm, i wonder if those cinders would break the door handle off?

Example #2, the moran with a jar of peaches. No can opener? Ok now find a way! instead he cuts his damn hand off almost and dies from infection!

Example #3, the peach morans girlfriend, she hears noises, "that must be help on the way" even though the people she is hearing does NOT announce themselves as help.

I could go on and on but the fact is, a lot of people are like that, they are just dumb and lack common sense and creative intelligence. You can look around and see how dumb people really are, they are so disconnected from reality and so dependent on other people, they just won't make it.

This same scenario also happened in the U.K version. Pretty much there is no such thing as hunkering down in a city or a populated dense area. If you want to survive you have to be MOBILE.

I live in NC and remember well Hurricane Fran. It was no Sandy but it did knock the power out for 14 days with extensive damage. I lost everything in the freezer and basically just had to hang out waiting for the power and repairs.

I've also been through several ice storms that knocked out the power for nearly a week. It was a major inconvenience for sure, but not even close to life threatening. 10 days from a grid failure is a joke and is easily recoverable.

That being said, the Government wasn't in suppress the people mode. Freedom of movement meant I could go where ever the hell I wanted if I didn't mind the slippery roads. A grid failure isn't as big a deal as this mocumentary is making, especially only 10 days unless the supply chain is shut down (which would be deliberate).

If you want to think about this on a doom level, they use an EMP so that nothing electronic works unless it is from the vacuum tube era. That means your flashlight is no good, your car will not start and so on. On top of that, 10 days becomes more like several years to a decade to re-establish the grid. Considering who is running the nation now, I wouldn't count on even recognizing what emerges from the darkness.

I agree somewhat with what you have said but you failed to take into account certain things..

1. A grid failure WILL be a big deal if was a widespread problem over multiple cities and states. Even if the power was out for 5-10 days

2. These docudramas were just meant to be an insight on what will happen within a specific time frame. Realistically if this were to ever happen, it will take MUCH MORE than 10 days to get the power back up and running

It wasn't that great... its just a production of what "could" happen. The idea is basically the same as the show revolution which isn't that great either.

Folks, it SUCKED.

Really, it was crap, even below "Blair Witch" standards. Nothing of substance to be gained, even for a neophyte prepper.

These are two hours of your life you will never get back if you waste them watching "American Blackout". I wish I hadn't.

do think the spoiled rich bitches will suffer without the amenities they have grown dependent upon because they won't know how to do things for themselves. when they wake and ring the bell for their morning coffee the servants will be gone to be with their own families.

average folk used to doing and working everyday will find a way to pull through as long as they have a little something on the ball.

Exactly. If someone in NJ knows that NY has power, there's hope. There is still unrest, but for the most part people just chill out and wait for things to get fixed.

If something widespread happens, it would only take a few days for people to start losing it. As other posters said, this movie was pretty badly done, but it's still a decent outline of how quickly things would degrade.

Exactly! Things will get bad fast. What I do wonder is who really is sponsoring or pushing all this preparedness stuff. Nat Geo has doomsday preppers, castle, and I think they had a shelter special also. They now had this blackout show. We know that many cannot think beyond tomorrow but shows like American Blackout may have inspired a couple thousand to think about having extra batteries or food. Sometimes I think shows like this are shown to teach adults to think and act like adults- basically be prepared to care for you and yours.

my observation

1. Throughout history the GREAT PURGE has happened to cleanse the planet of the overpopulation of... people, plants, fowl, mammals, fish.. ect./ the great purge is here, this time not plague, not fire, not flood, not ice, but by our own stupidity.

2. Curiosity killed the cat. That stupid blond in the high rise is just the stupid fluff another poster spoke of. She opened the door, exposing herself and her gravely ill husband to the hoards.

3. The weakest link will always expose you. As did the brain dead boyfriend that was taken to the safe house with that family. He exposed them with misguided emotional responses. THE STRONG SURVIVE, the weak perish. Deal with it.

4. Ask yourself what would you do? Will you have the tenacity to make the hard decisions, that being fending for yourself and your loved ones, and not being swayed by emotion to be charitable?? Only in times of PEACE do you have the LUXERY to be charitable.

5. As the Bible says," Woe be unto those who are with child in those days". The sheer horror will be unimaginable. The kids who survive will be ..... well not like the kids today sitting in front of their game devises playing mindless games to be sure.

Also notice how the couple in the Manhattan high rise beat up or maybe killed the guy trying to take their can of peaches AND the prepper with his family that wouldn't share his food with anyone were the ones punished. The guy of the Manhattan couple probably died from an infected cut and the woman was taken away by looters and we know her fate. The prepper had his family hating him AND just before the lights came on was almost shot. After all his half ass planning he pretty much compromised his entire family and almost lost his life in doing so. Are they trying to tell us that resistance is futile and that we should all march along together to the slaughter OR that doing what's right and helping each other only gets you a couple of scratches and that acting confrontational will get you killed or worse? Overall...the movie was poor at best and incomplete with no real help in teaching people what to do. Just another movie to confuse and continue to keep the gullible scared and blind.

A few years ago there was tv series called "Jericho" which dealt with surviving a nuclear and EMP attack in America. Was cancelled after two seasons I believe, but a good show...Look it up.

thankx here too... the message that I got LOUD and CLEAR is to have at least - two weeks of food stored (that doesn't require refrigeration)... preferably somewhere out side of the city limits -

my best advice for city dwellers is to have a fully stocked RV, parked just outside of town - scout out a safe location now.

Sorry...but I just couldn't watch it after a couple of shows. I believe most felt this way and that's why it's not on today. Wasn't there another that started last fall and someone or some people had a magical medallion that had some kind of electrical power? So much crap and so little time.

I'm not worried. I have lots of rice and beans, spices, unlimited water from streams. Unlimited firewood. Unlimited candles. Didn't even have to prep for that, its just because of where I live. I already have the rice and beans because its cheaper in bulk, and God knows everyone has more candles than they can use in a lifetime from Christmas gifts. Basically, you people are acting like it takes years to prep. There's nothing to prep. If you live in the country you'll be fine as long as you're not a pussy.
