there are more observable stars that we can see then grains of sand in all the beaches on earth.

Most of the stars have planets and just as much of a chance at having intelligent life on them as we do.

I don't think either are crazy. I also see no issue with questioning what we see and what we are told.

Problems arise when people who hold a particular set of beliefs insist on forcing them down the throats of others. When discussing issues of faith believers and non believers alike tend to go on the attack.

Trying to convince a hardcore atheist that there is a god or that the bible is literal is futile. Trying to convince a godly man that there is no God, a Christian that the bible is a fairytale or a Muslim that his beliefs are ridiculous is impossible too.

A person who chooses to believe that evidence exists for extraterrestrials visiting earth is no crazier then a person who believes in god. Someone who scoffs at the notion of God or alien life is no saner than either of them.

For me a 'nutjob conspiracist' would be the militant faithful of any belief. I've seen and heard some crazy shit from every group I've mentioned. Accepting something to be true in your own mind while granting others the same right shows a measure of sanity regardless of what you believe.

Personally, I tend to agree with you. It's pretty ridiculous to assume that humans are the pinnacle of existence in this vast universe, or that this tiny rock is the home of the only life. What are the odds of that, statistically speaking??

I was talking to a bible thumper the other day about creationism vs. evolution and they were talking about how humans were special and obviously created by god, because look at our language and art and culture and technology. I responded by saying "Look at all of the other creatures on this planet. Look at the insects that have been here for millions of years, that have no need for language or technology because they have evolved to point that it is unnecessary. They can live in harmony with their home planet without destroying it because they've evolved the ability to do so."

Humans are the new kids on the evolutionary block, and we are destroying this planet for not just ourselves but for everything else that calls it home, and why? Because we think we are somehow divine.
