I wish I could afford to buy a telescope! viewing pics on the internet is ok, but nothing beats seeing things for real.
anyone got any advice on buying a cheap but 'does the job' telescope? brands/models etc.

If portability is an issue, buy a truss tube dobsonian. Orion makes some, but they're all larger scale and higher price. Meade's lightbridge scopes are cheaper but probably don't meet the definition of "cheap." Thanks for the info ASTRO...how about this one? a good one as first time choice?
