TEPCO to conduct fuel rod removal test for Fukushima reactor No. 4

In light of the impending fuel rod removal from the 3 molten down reactor cores at the crippled Fukushima nuclear power facility, operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) can probably consider the fuel removal from the No. 4 reactor core – the only one that didn’t suffer a meltdown when the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami hit – as a good opportunity to practice. ... delayed actual fuel removal by two weeks... tests first before... fuel removal operation...

The decision comes after Japan Nuclear Energy Safety Organization, called for an initial test operation, including transporting a protective fuel cask from the storage pool to another pool in a different building about 100 meters away... The agency also urged TEPCO to have the test evaluated by a group of Japanese and overseas experts recommended by the International Research Institute for Nuclear Decommissioning, a Tokyo-based organization founded by Japanese government agencies, nuclear facility manufacturers and electric power companies.

The more dangerous affair will be extracting the radioactive fuel rods from the three molten down cores, where a small mistake might become the spark that starts a whole new nuclear disaster on its own... the United States Department of Energy has signed on to help with the risky process.

...TEPCO... has a string of high-profile incidents with power outages and radioactive waste water leaks have ... convinced the Japanese public that TEPCO cannot be trusted with this dangerous process by itself.

Well, at least they're going to try a 'test' first before just jumping in.

I maintain they still have absolutely no idea what to do, this is all diversion from the reality that this is true ELE doom with no way to fix it.

The actual 'removal date' will continually get kicked down the road.

CP, thanks again for the updates. What's your gut feeling CP, do you think they will screw up or they will succeed. Maybe with the US now involved, maybe they will not screw up. I seem to be lacking intuition on this one, but the whole operation scares the heck out of me, much more than ISON or anything else.

It's insane that the international community are not demanding transparancy & full reporting on this massive undertaking.

Some people think this is a joke!
Thats fine, I get it, its a joke until it becomes deadly real, this is how we are programmed. Watch a scary sci-fi movie or a horror flick, and get scared for a few seconds, then the humor sets in, makes you numb! Go Laugh it off, its not real.....

All part of the master plan. Dumb down the population, then they don't give a FUK!

For those who are sarcastic in their opinion, and don't care, either go back to sleep, or go to Japan and help them clean up the FUK'n radiation, or shut the FUK UP!

Is the earthquake window still open this week? It wouldn't be good to be lifting a rod out as a quake hits. Emergency shutdown has to be in under a minute lol record breaking time. Is the prediction time improved. Are the machines hardened to the radiation sufficiently now.

Is the earthquake window still open this week? It wouldn't be good to be lifting a rod out as a quake hits. Emergency shutdown has to be in under a minute lol record breaking time. Is the prediction time improved. Are the machines hardened to the radiation sufficiently now.

There should be an alert to the world if the worst case occurs.

Japan gets hit by M5ish constantly. There is no way to predict as far as we are told.
Up to now we have been informed of jack & shit... & jack is leaving town.

There are precursors to quakes and warning systems. I'm told. If they/or anybody have something better now would be the time to bring it out.

Seems space-flight tricky. On the bright side, they've decided to practice for couple of weeks. What can't a motivated person learn in two whole weeks.

Maybe they'll bury the molten cores in hope and change. It smothered America to death, why not try it on devastated nuke facilities?

Maybe the same team that set up obamacare can help advise with this project?
