GOOGLE Breaks Silence on Mystery Barges | |
Let Freedom Ring 365 User ID: 32723625 United States 11/06/2013 10:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I haven't really been following this, but this sentence, alone, sounds like there's definitely something they're hiding. "Although it’s still early days and things may change, we’re exploring using the barge as an interactive space where people can learn about new technology." Why would you build these giant barges without a concrete plan for what to use them for? Then again, Google is made of money, so I guess they can just throw up structures all over the world and figure out what to do with them later. Strange business model, if that's the case, though. I would think the stockholders would not be too happy about blowing money on something you're not really sure what to do with. I agree with all of that. Why all of the secrecy surrounding them showing up? "Interactive space where people can learn" reeks of suspicion. Why not just say that's what they were from the beginning? I call Google is in-bed with US govt., so I'm not buying it. You are the creator of your own master plan... Make it a good one. Wake the fuk up and be ready... This is absolutely no time to be stupid! “If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.” - Nikola Tesla |

It was never actually a secret of any kind. The problem has mostly been that San Francisco has ordinances which were getting in the way — something about it being considered a permanent structure or something and it not being allowed to dock in SF. It's just their attempt to get in the retail game alongside Apple. Microsoft tried with their lame ass retail stores which are literally alongside Apple stores in malls everywhere. At least Google is trying something different here. They are in the hardware game now, they need retail stores. Not a shocker at all. I suspect they'll be docking them for extended periods at port cities up and down the coast(s). Finally someone with some common sense, I could see that; a floating sales-floor with a lot of publicity when & where its docking. Latest case of daily GLP "mountain from molehill", tell me I'm lying. Umm, what? Who the f--- would only put retail stores across the coasts? Look, I'm in Silicon Valley too and yes, google may want to enter the retai store industry EVENTUALLY, but this is not their plan. What the heck are you smoking? I want some... |

Useless Cookie Eater User ID: 29696048 United States 11/06/2013 10:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Google has issued a statement (finally?) about its months-long mystery barge project. The barges, which are anchored in both Portland, Maine and San Francisco, have been the topic of intense interest since multiple reports surfaced last month. Quoting: Sleeping Giant A Google spokesperson told TechCrunch that the barges are ‘an interactive space’ to teach people about its technology: Google Barge … A floating data center? A wild party boat? A barge housing the last remaining dinosaur? Sadly, none of the above. Although it’s still early days and things may change, we’re exploring using the barge as an interactive space where people can learn about new technology. The statement matches up with sources we spoke to last week, who were still uncertain about the exact uses that all of the barges would be put to in the end. A report by The Los Angeles Times’ Chris O’Brien last week noted that most of the reporters going after this barge story had been looking at the wrong San Francisco lease. O’Brien noted that the correct lease’s purpose is the “fabrication of a special event structure and art exhibit only and for no other purpose.” [link to techcrunch.com] Party / Demo barge my ass. Why spend all the money for something like that on a barge that could have been done much more easily and cheaply on land.... UNLESS....it's not really a "party /demo barge" and now that is just the cover story. DOESN'T ADD UP! Last Edited by Useless Cookie Eater on 11/06/2013 10:59 PM |
