It doesn't look right and its not just the color. The core is brighter than the gas and debris coma. The coma is radiating in front of the core like energy, not swept back like gas and debris.

No sir, I have a strange feeling when I view daily pics of this. Run the pics through effect filters..it just gets more bazzaro.

If this is a comet its a new class and catagory that we've not seen before.

Hmm...wonder what a rogue neutron star would look like.

A comet's tail should just be an extension of its coma, so if the coma is blue, its tail should also be blue. So yes, ISON is actually a red comet enveloped by a bluish radiation which the comet emits.

Also, the fact that ISON is not producing as much dust as it is expected, means it is solid, and massive!

It gravitational field must be strong enough to prevent the solar wind from "stripping away" much of its dust.

Perhaps when the comet comes around the Sun it will reverse colors. Blue and Red Kachinas are in the prophecies.

Maybe the blue larger coma enveloping this red comet, is the mask that the Blue Kachina is expected to remove?

I don't think it's an anti-matter comet, but I do think that it's a red comet with a blue coma due to cherenkov radiation.

"Cerenkov radiation is the term used to describe radiation produced when fast moving particles or cosmic rays pass through a transparent medium. When high-energy y rays pass through such a medium pair production may result"

The sun emits these cosmic rays comprising of y rays and fast moving particles, which are hitting ISON right now.

The picture linked below is said to be a real colour picture, this is what we are working from.

"When a fast moving charged particle moves through a medium such as water (IN OUR CASE - WHATEVER IS BEING VAPOURISED FROM ISON) the effect is to polarise the water molecules in a direction adjacent to its path thus causing distortions in the electrical charge. In the wake of the particle, the molecules attempt to revert to their previous orientation. A pulse of electromagnetic radiation in the form of blue light is emitted as a result of this "reorientation.""

At least you agree with the OP that ISON is "a red comet with a blue coma due to cherenkov radiation." :)

The only question is what is creating this cherenkov radiation enveloping ISON.

You mentioned: "Cerenkov radiation is ... produced when fast moving particles or cosmic rays pass through a transparent medium." and that "The sun emits these cosmic rays comprising of y (gamma) rays and fast moving particles, which are hitting ISON right now."

If the sun alone is responsible for the creation of the cherenkov radiation, then why do we observe this radiation only in the case of ISON and not in other comets?

Clearly there must be something about ISON, which together with the SUN, that is creating the cherenkov radiation.

And this is why the OP came out with the conclusion that ISON is an antimatter comet, as one of the signatures of matter / antimatter annihilation is the production of multiple pions. And that these charged pions (which are moving faster than light in the matter / antimatter medium which created them) is creating the cherenkov radiation.

Annihilation Signature

When a neutron oscillates into an antineutron in the
nucleus, it quickly annihilates and produces multiple pions

Charged pions can be seen by Cherenkov radiation

Neutral pions cannot, but quickly decay into two photons
which Compton scatter off of electrons

Assuming for the sake of argument that ISON is not made of antimatter.

But the fact that it is producing Cherenkov radiation at all, means that it is made up of dangerous and very strong radioactive material.

This may seem like an obvious question to those who are technically acquainted...

You say that the absence of Cherenkov radiation is not a sure sign of the absence of dangerous levels of radioactivity, but could it be said that the presence of Cherenkov radiation is a sure sign of the presence of dangerous radioactivity? --68.107.141.30 00:52, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

Yes, it's true that the presence of the Cherenkov's Radiation means that -to put things simply- you're in big trouble.
But only if you are in the same medium as the one in which the radiation occurrs or and similiar and close to the source. If you're in a medium which stops the radiation then it's, of course, stopped. For example: imagine Cherenkov's Radiation occurring in a place fully isolated from the outside -- you're safe outside as long as the isolation is not destroyed. Isolation can anyting that doesn't meet the requirements for the radiation to take place. Another example: It's much harder to produce the radiation in the air than it is in water. If you produce weak radiation in water then you can make it powerful enough for it to visible in water, but at the same time weak enough for it to be harmful in air. Then, you'll be able to actually watch it, standing next to the water pool.

 Quoting: wikipedia

The Cherenkov effect is used as a visual cue in Hollywood movies to announce radioactive materials. However, it should be noted that even very radioactive materials do not glow in air - the particles are simply too slow - and that even in water a source may be producing a dose of radiation lethal in seconds without easily visible Cherenkov radiation. A source itself would only glow if it was very strong, transparent, and an insulator.

According to Bruce Gary, ISON's inner-most comma is red, but is surrounded by gas molecules that re-emit sunlight at short wavelengths.

The coma is green due to molecular emission while the tail remains reddish... The inner-most coma is reddish! ... The rest of the coma is dominated by gas molecules that are not pushed back by sunlight, but instead absorb sunlight and re-emit in an excited state at short wavelengths (e.g., B, g' and V-bands).

And the following is a photo of ISON that clearly shows it is a red comet surrounded by a green/bluish halo:

The only difference between OP's observation and Bruce Gary's observation is that the OP believes the blue/green halo is due to Cherenkov radiation and not by "gas molecules that absorb sunlight and re-emit it in an excited state at short wavelengths (e.g., B, g' and V-bands)."

The reasons why the OP believes the blue/green halo surrounding the red comet is cherenkov radiation and not gas molecules, were stated by the ac quoted above:

If the blue/green halo is made of gas molecules, then:

1. Why is the inner coma (which is red) brighter than the gas molecules surrounding it? When according to Bruce Gary, the gas molecules are absorbing the sunlight and re-emitting it?

2. According to Bruce Gary, the gas molecules are not pushed back. And according to the ac quoted above, it "is radiating in front of the core like energy, not swept back like gas and debris".

If the solar wind is able to push back the red dust making the red tail of ISON, how come it is not able to push back the gas molecules surrounding ISON?

It seems that over the past month or so ISON's gas production rate has increased as expected while its dust production rate has not," Hergenrother said. "I don't really know what this means but something has to give, either the dust production picks up or the gas production slows down."
[link to www.huffingtonpost.com]
 Quoting: hufftingtonpost.com

The above quoted observation about ISON is one more reason why the blue/green halo surrounding the red comet ISON is not made of gas molecules. Because if it is, then the rate of gas production should at least be proportional to the rate of dust production. In other words, if the gas production is increasing, its dust production should increase as well. BUT IT IS NOT!

So what these astronomers think is an increase in gas production, is actually an increase in the production of the Cherenkov radiation. And this should be expected because as ISON nears the sun, the mass density of the solar wind increases.

One astronomer reported the deep blue-green color of ISON's coma and is also observing how the coma is more spherical than elongated. Again, if the bluish coma is mostly made of gas molecules, it should appear elongated as the solar wind pushes it back. A more spherical shape is what is expected if the bluish coma is mostly made of radiation rather than gas molecules!
The coma was circular and well defined, of a deep blue-green color and the central condensation was bright and nearly starlike. It resembled a circular planetary nebula around a central star as seen through a giant telescope.

Actually, the solar wind is plasma:
The solar wind is a stream of charged particles (a plasma) released from the upper atmosphere of the Sun.
[link to en.wikipedia.org]
 Quoting: wikipedia

So if ISON is made of pure plasma, it will interact with the solar wind, and be pushed back and look elongated.

The fact that it is circular in shape means the bluish halo surrounding the red comet ISON is made mostly of radiation. Also, the changing of this halo's color from green to blue is another reason to believe it is mostly radiation.

However, I am in the opinion that the halo is composed mostly of cherenkov radiation and in small part, plasma, as you said.

And this is why we see a small amount of distortion in the bluish halo's circular shape.

If ISON is made of ordinary matter, then yes, it is a strongly dangerous radioactive material which explains why it produces cherenkov radiation in its atmosphere.

But why is this radiation intensifying as it approaches the sun, as can be seen by the change of the radiation's color from green to blue?

For this reason, I believe it is antimatter instead.

Either which way, people will have only 2 destinies as the earth gets double dusted by ISON's debris this coming mid-January:

Why does comet ISON have a blue coma and at the same time have a reddish tail?

The answer is, ISON is really a red comet, but is also emitting Cherenkov radiation (blue light) at the same time.

The Cherenkov radiation is produced by neutron-antineutron oscillations taking place at ISON. When a neutron oscillates into an antineutron in the nucleus, it quickly annihilates and produces multiple pions which emit Cherenkov radiation.
[link to www.int.washington.edu]

Cherenkov radiation is electromagnetic radiation emitted when a charged particle (such as an electron) passes through a dielectric medium at a speed greater than the phase velocity of light in that medium.

The frequency spectrum of Cherenkov radiation by a particle is given by the Frank–Tamm formula. Unlike fluorescence or emission spectra that have characteristic spectral peaks, Cherenkov radiation is continuous. Around the visible spectrum, the relative intensity per unit frequency is approximately proportional to the frequency. That is, higher frequencies (shorter wavelengths) are more intense in Cherenkov radiation. This is why visible Cherenkov radiation is observed to be brilliant blue. In fact, most Cherenkov radiation is in the ultraviolet spectrum—it is only with sufficiently accelerated charges that it even becomes visible; the sensitivity of the human eye peaks at green, and is very low in the violet portion of the spectrum.

I want to write first what I think the effect will be on ISON as it passes around the sun.

If ISON is an antimatter comet, then it will lose considerable mass as it interacts with the sun during its perihelion. The annihilated antimatter mass will transform into pure energy in the form of photons or gamma rays.

Now what happens to electrons when they lose energy in the form of photons? They move or jump from a higher orbital to a lower orbital.

Similarly, I believe ISON will move from a hyperbolic orbit, to an elliptical orbit around the sun, after suddenly losing considerable antimatter mass!

In other words, ISON will become a "permanent" member of the solar system.

How far ISON's new elliptical orbit will be from the sun depends on how much antimatter mass it will lose, the more mass lost, the closer its new elliptical orbit will be to the sun.

Of course, even when ISON moves in a new elliptical orbit around the sun, it will continue to lose mass as it interacts with the solar wind due to matter / antimatter annihilation. This willl make ISON's elliptical orbit closer and closer to the sun until it eventually plunges towards it.

If this will be the case, then we get to view comet ISON for a considerably long period of time :)

BTW, Josephus wrote about a comet which continued for a year during the time of the second Temple's destruction:
"Thus it was that the wretched people were deluded at that time by charlatans and pretended messengers of the deity; while they neither heeded nor believed in the manifest portents that foretold the coming desolation, but, as if thunderstruck and bereft of eyes and mind, disregarded the plain warnings of God. So it was when a star, resembling a sword, stood over the city, and a comet which continued for a year." (War 6.5.4 288-289)

Re: Blue star kachina and comet ISON explained using Cherenkov radiation
In summary, the blue coma of ISON is a result of matter / antimatter annihilation taking place.

That's what you want us to believe. Fact is anti-matter is just a theory for people who cannot wrap their minds around the reality of God.

On the contrary, I don't want you to believe anything I write, simply because I don't care about your belief system, or anything about you.

Re: Blue star kachina and comet ISON explained using Cherenkov radiation
We (Quanzhi Ye, Man-To Hui and Xing Gao) noticed a dramatic morphological change of comet C/2012 S1
(ISON) observed via the 0.35-m f/6.9 Schmidt telescope + unfiltered QHY9 CCD at Xingming Observatory C42 from Nov 13.99 UT to 14.99 UT.

Seven delicate (plasma) tails are visible from P.A. 275 to 320 deg (0 deg at north) in the Nov. 14 images. In comparison there were only two obvious in the Nov 13 images.

After applying the azimuthal median filter to images from both dates, we saw two intense jets in P.A. 0 deg and 220 deg in the Nov 14 images, both slightly skewed to the anti-solar direction and measured ~34-arcsec in length. The two jets were absent in the Nov. 13 images. Images could be found at [link to flic.kr] (Nov 13) and [link to flic.kr] (Nov 14). What we found has been reported to CBET.

These 2 jets are making ISON look more and more like the winged sun with seven tails!

The winged sun is a symbol associated with divinity, royalty and power in the Ancient Near East (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Anatolia, and Persia). The symbol has also been found in the records of ancient cultures residing in various regions of South America as well as Australia.
