+++ NASA CME Prediction model MASSIVE CME off the charts for 13th +++

I would suspect it isn't just about the size of the CME but how direct it is and the speed at which it strikes. A big pillow can hit you but won't do much damage or a small bullet can hit you and do a lot. It's not just about the size persay. Their are a lot of other factors to think about... but I am no solar scientist... Maybe Geo can chime in? Am I wrong in this assumption?

Revisions with new data from satellites places this now as a glancing blow or a miss.

As per the latest SWPC update, the observed CME consisted mainly of shock and contained very little ejecta, the bulk of which appeared to be directed south of the ecliptic. Initial indications are that this CME will miss Earth to the south, further analysis and imagery are needed to make a final determination.

this one is large and dense....but way too slow. less then 20 hour from the sun to the earth will be up for discussion.....

"As A.R 1890 had produced another X1.1 class at 05:14UTC plus CME that are Earth directed and are expected to arrive on the 13th. Having a bit of trouble gathering data on the actual flare as many of the data sites seem to be down at this point. Hoping they come back up soon to bring you the latest images and movies. Here is the current solar disk (from AIA 171 a) ; we are noticing 2 bright regions coming back around again off the east limb."

One other question about the standoff distance, in the stats. Is that where they expect it to be pushed to during an event or where it starts off?

Here's a question I've been mulling: would an EMP serve "them" more than a simple grid-down event? I think it would be hard to corral/control the masses if military vehicles and law enforcement vehicles didn't work. No way DHS has hardened electronics in all those things. They are mostly new vehicles, as far as I can tell. Plus, their communications devices wouldn't work - can't imagine they're all EMP-proof. If they fry all electronics they could be shooting themselves in the foot.

I think just yanking the power would be sufficient to throw the masses into panic.
