I let my kids go out all the time. Granted I'm always with earshot and in a room that I can see them but I'm not always out there.

Don't you just love nosy neighbors ? That woman needs to get a life.

i didn't see where she lives. Detroit? I think anyone that let's their kids play outside near bedtime in Detroit should go to jail. They have signs posted that if you don't live in the area get out and that the cops can't guarantee your safety and ambulances won't head into that area.

Our kids were pretty "free range". We have a lake about 500 yards away, and the kids went there all the time to goof off, catch turtles and just be kids. Or they would ride their bikes for miles...They just knew it was time to come home when they saw that the garage door was open. That was our signal, until we got some walkie talkies.

Yep. Your kids will understand self determination, personal responsibility, and be able to creatively think. Unsupervised play time is where we learn a lot of important skills.

I moved away from Greensboro NC because I saw these prevailing attitudes of statism, and when someone else says they know better then you, and attempts to use the law to strong arm you to behave as they behave it is a true sign of oppressive government.

Free Rangers are the future, the rest of the kids won't know how to wipe their own @$$ without a certified government teacher, an instruction manual, and a power point presentation.
