The fruit of the tree

The Book of Enoch 31:4, purporting to be written by the antediluvian prophet Enoch, describes the Tree of Knowledge: "It was like a species of the tamarind tree, bearing fruit which resembled grapes extremely fine; and its fragrance extended to a considerable distance. I exclaimed, How beautiful is this tree, and how delightful is its appearance!" In the Talmud, Rabbi Meir says that the fruit was a grape (Brachot 40a). Some commentators suggest that Eve actually made, and drank, wine.

Also in the Talmud, Rabbi Nechemia says that the fruit was a fig. Adam and Eve used fig leaves to cover themselves after eating the fruit (Genesis 3:7). Perhaps this was because the leaves were nearby, or perhaps it shows God creating the cure before the illness, i.e. the same tree that caused the problem was then used to remedy it. Another explanation lies within the "fruit" of the fig tree, the fig itself, which is not actually a fruit but rather a flower of sorts, serving as the tree's genitalia.

Another Talmudic interpretation, expressed by Rabbi Yehuda, is that the fruit was wheat.

In Western Christian art, the fruit is most commonly depicted as an apple. One possible reason for this arises from a medieval pun. It was a source of humor to monks that the Latin word for evil was similar to the word for apple. Thus it was often said that by eating the malum (apple), Eve contracted malus (evil). There is, however, no textual or historical evidence by which to argue the literalness of this image.

Ethno-botanists have proposed the iboga plant (Tabernanthe iboga) as the Tree of Knowledge. The ground up bark contains a dissociative substance, ibogaine, which has been traditionally used in Bwiti religious ceremony in Central Africa. Other hallucinogens, in particular the Fly agaric mushroom, have also been proposed as the Tree. The Coptic Christians of Jamaica and the Rastafarians believe it to be the marijuana plant.

The forbidden fruit was the acquirement of true spiritual identity and knowledge as imparted by the "Serpent".

The Serpent was not a being, it was a sect among the "Divine" beings who were present on Earth at the time of the creation of Human Beings.

Two factions existed, basically, one that wanted to keep Human Beings spiritually dim, so that they would comply to servitude.

The other found the idea reprehensible, and conspired to teach Human Beings about their true potential.

The mystery here is who was the Villain? One might be tempted to cast the Serpent as the Hero here...but the Serpent really screwed things up for our species. The reason being there was one key element that goes along with spirituality...maturity.

"God" said that if Man took of the first tree, on that day he would surely die.

The Serpent said "...ye shall not surely die."

The crux is this: "God" knew that if Man acquired spiritual knowledge, he would punish them with death. A day to God is as 1000 years on Earth...so basically Adam and Eve died in a day as promised.

The serpent knew of the other tree, which was a tree of eternal life. "Ye shall not surely die....if you can get to the other tree." (I'm putting words into the text that do not exist for illustrative purposes.)

"God" prevented man from immortality and assured his promised death. Meanwhile, Mankind had spiritually awakened, revealing their shame at being "Naked" or being treated like beasts of burden.

Without Immortality, advanced spiritual concepts are all but impossible to obtain, particularly as the long lifespans of Mankind got bred out over the generations.

Furthermore, "God" cursed the ground and made it so Man would have to spend all of his day in toil and sweat to put food on the table.

The serpent is punished by being twisted into a compromised organization that no longer sponsers spiritual education but begins to erase spiritual knowledge from mankind.

It's very obvious what the forbidden fruit was... What was the first thing they realized after they ate of it? They realized they were naked, so what did they do? They covered themselves with FIG leaves.

I tend to agree with this. Really in the perfect salvation of all it is the only thing that makes perfect sense!

The tree of knowledge of good and evil. Before eating the fruit, they apparently had no concept of good or evil.

Now say a psychologically disturbed person, maybe one that has no concept of good and evil, kills someone. Should they be punished? Our court system says no, but if we follow the example of God?

I, too agree with this line of thought.. I believe it was sex with another, Adam based on lust not love.

It makes sense that the fruit is sex. The first thing that happened is they realize they are naked. Fruit has seeds just like a man has a seed. Womens curse was to have painful childbirth. what does eating an apple and having babies have to do with each other? He also I will put emnity between your seed and her seed. That's why he doesn't want us mixing seeds of any kind. Satan was trying to pollute the human race. It says somewhere Eve was beguiled by Satan which means ''holy seduction.''

I think the book says Adam partook at Eve's insistance..or Eve tricked him, which is why so many men are so hateful towards women.
