5 gal bucket cut bottom out dig 18 inch hole yes water good put bottom of bucket in hole put mud around edges put lid on loosely you can screw a toilet seat to a lid and put it on with toilet seat lid also by cutting hole in lid after used a while just seal lid and make another a few feet awAy they won't work for 400 but many of them will work

Seer has a friend helping in the Philippines, his friend has asked for help in a construction project, time is little and of importance, he asked seer to help him find a way around a project, he can only recieve texts ,,, I don't know if you have watched the news but yeah, communication is limited.

He needs a short explanation of how to build a latrine.
Now I don't know how long you have been here but members of this forum are very clever, from building their own homes, digging wells to installing solar power, yes we have some clever members, so what better place to ask, especially when googling could take a lifetime especially when you have no clue what is for the best.

You can text this:

Build a structure with a bench in the frontside. Allow for air intake. Build the backside of the structure to allow for large trash cans (with handles) to slide underneath the bench. This backside should have a chimney to pull air out from the frontside. Use a large black pipe for chimney. This will allow the sun to heat the chimney and naturally pull air out. The bench inside should have a hole cut into it and a toilet seat attached. Add about a cup of sawdust to the waste container (trash can) for each deposit. Include a bucket of sawdust in the frontside of the structure.

This explains the one built at the link I posted on page 1 of this thread. In a pinch it will work and minimize health concerns.

Construct tank. Paint black. As much exposure to sun as possible. Put about 4-5 inches of tree bark (best), saw dust or other pourus material at bottom.
Install chimney on tank, atleast 15 feet high for odour to vent.
Install "outhouse" on top of tank. Ask user to throw about a cup of saw dust after use. (ground up tree bark is the best)

The heat of the sun will continously dry out the feces. The chimney will went most of the odours. A fan might be needed on the chimney.

If possible, having a urine separator in the toilet, will improve performance, especially when dealing with so many people.

Encourage people to use urinals first (atleast the men).

Urine is excellent fertiliser, but needs to be mixed with water, otherwise it actually kills the vegetation.

It needs to be something like 1 part urine, 10 parts water atleast. But I think water for that purpose is just about the only thing easily obtained.

Actually, it seems to me there is an abundance of water over there right now.

The problem is clean water.

Because I doubt you can find the answer on google. Google sites will probably tell you the supplies you should buy at Home Depot.

OP's mention of money in her friend's report comes off as a set-up to hit you up for money or that you'll ask what group their friend is working with and volunteer to donate to it.
OP and friend could be totally on the up and up. Personally I saw it as a red flag. The point is make sure to check things out so that money actually does help those who need it.
And OP I WILL be keeping an eye on this.

For the time being I'd use tight tanks until the groundwater is lower to prevent contamination. If they have an excavator I'd simply tell them to build a mounded pump up system 4' above groundwater, the proper system would consist of a septic tank with baffle leading to a pump chamber pumped upwards to the distribution box, branching out throughout the leaching trenches. It could be completed in a day with a few guys in a makeshift fashion using stationary tanker trucks, a trash pump and manually up pumping to created berms to sloped perforated pipe.

You need to dig a burn pit.. waste should be deposited in said pit and burned... The preferred method would be to shit in a bag and toss it in.. but since you may not have plastic bags available (I honestly don't know) you will have to find another way to transport it.. anyway.. I've done it before... that's probably your best bet.

You can dig a pissing latrine which will basically be a long trench..

You need to get dozers and clean roadways get them working 24/7 Clean burn and bury. Stage water tankers offshore and pump water.

DRILL WELLS ASAP. Waterwells and spring FED water, if it is available in Leyte.

Animals will be put to rest if they become a threat to others. Any violent animal or crossbreed. . .

Get laundry/ shower facilities.

Find some "Friends" that can get C-130-s on improvised airstrips. If you have to land them get some JATO assist and get 'em the hell out of there on airlift wing.

You can get KC-135's in drop off fuel and water and GTFO with JATO Assist.

I bet you sorry you closed Clark and Alongapo now ;-)

This is pretty much the same thing my husband just said -- I think this must be a good solution. Almost like a 'deer stand' with a toilet inside, and under the deer stand is room for the trash can / 55 gallon drum.

Except instead of seating only one person, the 'deer stand' would be divided into stalls, with one trash can / 55 gallon drum under each.

Also very important to use sawdust -- then the waste, with proper amount of time, will turn to something like compost. But if there's too much, then of course, it will have to be burnt.
