Ok, the woods behind my new house are really creepy at night. Even my dog is spooked out there and wants to go back inside.

last night my dog and i were out there. it was about 1030 pm. we both heard a scratching sound like a man rustling in the brush, etc. my dog got very spooked. started barking then turned around and made a beeline for the back door of the house.
usually i have to encourage him to go inside. this time he went right for the door and brought ME inside.
very strange.
Quoting: Salt if it was a real person or animal, he would have stood his ground. the fact that he wanted to go inside was behavior like there was a bear or something... Quoting: Salt Your dog is not stupid... Wild boars (wild pigs) have a fowl stench and will drive the bravest of dog to cower due to the stench. Many diseases give off stench that keen dog scents can pick up on - if a dog encounters a new scent that is off, smells of disease (or death) he mayn't be interested in investigating what smells that way. Before jumping on the bandwagon of spiritual activities, hire a tracker to go around the woods during the day and investigate the tracks - unless you yourself know how to find and identify animal tracks. It is possible you have a diseased critter - say an animal with gangrene (oozing, stinking dying from infection wound) - that is enough to cause most sensible dogs to back off. They may not know what gangrene is, but instinctively they know its not good - definitely not good to eat.
