I also have one of these original bean grinders.

I cleaned it, updated the toggle switch to blue rubber coated one...

....and powder coated the grinder to blue from the original white, and re-did the black with powder coat too.
Wuv this thing.
One of a kind now.

You can set it to grind from fine to coarse.
Works great and you can keep an entire pound of coffee in the hopper.

I agree Colombian coffee is best coffee, make me want to throw out my can of Maxwellhouse.

No Robusta beans and drip with water cooler than 195F to minimize oils. Drink within 20 minutes.

your water is too hot. Check out the oil sheen on the top of your cup of coffee. Oil comes at 198-199F if I remember.

Make sure you buy only ORGANIC COFFEE the GMO crap will give you headache.

I live Central Florida ,easy for me to find, look for any Hispanic store in your area, they will carry a few brands!

Yeah...very heavy built too. It's a beast.
All metal and no plastic on it other than the rubber on the switch.
I weighs like 6-7 pounds unloaded I think.

I've been drinking coffee since I was 2 years old and now nearing 60 I feel I am more than qualified to discuss the subject.
Vac Drip coffee makers, that resemble a piece of Chemical equipment (Kipp Generator) make the best tasting coffee but are a mess to clean up afterward.

Overall, in my experience, the best coffee makers are the old fashioned Aluminum Drip Coffee makers that you pour hot water through the top section that gradually drips through the coffee basket into a bottom serving container. This requires some other item like a typical kettle to heat the water. NOTE: You should never be tempted to re-heat leftover coffee by using the bottom section on the stove, this will alter the taste and performance over time. The Aluminum manual drip is not as hard to keep clean and come in various sizes from one cup to seven. Most are antiques now and you must pay more, but they are still around. (These were replaced by the "Mr. Coffee" makers, by far the worst because all coffee filters change the complexity of the coffee.)

Percolated coffee is "burned" coffee period. All Percolators destroy vital flavors in coffee and it should be avoided. Don't buy these antiques, they are part of the 50s legacy, now long gone.

Also, but 100 percent columbian types, you can't go wrong. AVoid cheap coffee like "Chase & Sans forlorn", "Maxwell Louse", "Forgers",all bad. Choc full of Nuts is OK. for the cheap set.

I read somewhere recently that the perfect and most tasty way to drink coffee was with a knob of butter, instead of milk. I've been wary to waste any precious coffee trying it and it sounds disgusting.

Anyone tried it?

I found a Bodum electric french press brand new in box at Goodwill. I adore french press coffee and with the electric one, the water brews right into the pot so its the convience of a drip maker, the taste of a press! :)

Shamefully, I now use the Folgers single coffee bags. I only drink about one cup a day.

This thread reminds me of my mom and grandmother and how they would have a pot of coffee brewing through an old Corning-ware percolator all day long. I can still remember the wonderful aroma!
