Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50123767 Ever thought about a Birdshot Effect when Ison is hurled around the sun, catapulted back and disintegrates while it is moving around the Sun ? I have.... It would be more like Shoemaker Levy 9 -- string of pearls. Still wouldn't get what it needed to aim anywhere near Earth. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 50076843 Turkey 11/17/2013 04:45 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ISON has a 56.45% chance of hitting the Earth. That figure is increasing daily according to my sources. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50123991 Hmmm, I am curious, who/what is your source (please, do tell)? Don't say a relative!! his friend's crippled girlfriend's myopy cousin's uncle who turned out to be gay in his fourties told him. thats hi source |

Anu, father of Enki User ID: 9391124 United States 11/17/2013 04:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The trajectory will not change, because no external forces are involved. It's simple Newtonian mechanics. The center of gravity of the two parts will follow exactly the same trajectory as an intact comet would have done. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34407246 Really, then why did it break apart? Seems to me causality has to come into play. Also since there are reports that one of the parts is slowing some external force is clearly at work. I am not say this means doom. I am only pointing out the obvious. I ordered the destruction of mankind, why are you still here? |

Guess I should be. Come on then dickhead let's hear it. You've had a shitty little hard on for this thing since day dot so tell us what's on your mind and projections now. No disrespect but this is your time to shine and stop sitting on the fence like some little jumped up nerd with a telescope. We are ALL listening. That was uncalled for. Look, I'll say this, if the CBET posted is a hoax, it's a very clever hoax. Personally I think it's probably genuine. Only time will tell if it really has fragmented or not. I apologise I shouldn't have called you a dickhead. Tho saying that - thankyou for your answer.. I'm just a little tense right now with these developements after hearing your; "Is on isn't or will ever be a threat", speeches. Do you understand my frustration? You should do. Sad thing is I like and respect you but this... Well.. I know its not YOUR fault but not even 5% of your suggestions leant towards this outcome. In short - this is dangerous to earth isn't it? That's what I'm getting at. You should at least acknowledge that. ison fragmenting or breaking isnt really an "outcome". It doesnt change anything. In fact i hope we get lots of pieces surviving the tirp to make for more of a show!! It wont change the trajectory, it won't hit us and it is not more dangerous broken than it is whole. I hope that makes you feel better. :malefav: I love this place!! |

If true this information, it would mean that ISON the increasing heat and the stronger gravitational forces of our sun could not stand any longer. How bright ISON may still be now if more tails and develop (on each item), or whether it will soon fade, is not yet clear. Tomorrow morning is ISON next to the star Spica . Green girl - where ya from? 'Honey'? Lol Cape Breton i know there is fear and confusion, which is why i frequently speak up on these threads. People say we don't know enough about ison to be able to say that, but we really do know all we need to. Physics rules! Nothing ison can do at this point will save it from its fate. It is no match for the sun or its own velocity - those forces are staggering compared to the tiny comet. :malefav: I love this place!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 10133295 Canada 11/17/2013 04:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.facebook.com (secure)] Quoting: peperino IX 47331455 COMET C/2012 S1 (ISON) update November 16, 2013 from CBET 3715 H. Boehnhardt, C. Tubiana, N. Oklay, and J. B. Vincent, Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research, Katlenburg-Lindau; and U. Hopp, C. Ries, M. Schmidt, A. Riffeser, and C. Goessl, Astronomical Institute, Ludwig Maximilian University, Munich, report the detection of coma wings in Laplace-filter-processed CCD exposures of comet C/2012 S1 obtained with the 0.4-m telescope of the Mt. Wendelstein Observatory on Nov. 14.16-14.21 and 16.16-16.21 UT. The arclet-like wings appeared in opposite direction from the nucleus at position angles 15 and 195 deg on Nov. 14 and at p.a. 25 and 205 deg on Nov. 16. The coma wings extended straight from the nucleus for about 4700 km on Nov. 14 and 13500 km on Nov. 16 on either side of the extended radius vector and continued in streamers of the plasma tail. No coma wings were found in similar exposures obtained on Nov. 13. The coma wings suggest the presence of two or more sub-nuclei with individual expanding atmospheres in the overall cometary coma and may indicate recent nucleus splitting in the comet. Btw did anyone VERIFY the authenticity of OP's post??? Facebook? Really?? a website linked from Bruce Gary's site [link to 6888comete.free.fr] key out the coma structure on the newest images. |
