He got his money's worth for that law degree in one 3 minute encounter! I got a law degree 17 years ago and STILL haven't gotten my money's worth!

Good for him!

What peace officer? There was no peace officer on the video I watched.

Maybe you should learn the difference between a peace officer and a police officer.

I have a multi-million dollar idea

If we can do a Sopranos, why can't we do a piece on the Jewish mobsters? C'mon...it has potential!

Big bucks here....I can even help write some scripts...I'm pretty good, just because I know my my history..

Obviously this little knit-wit planned this out. Memorizing the exact specific parts of the law he knew was going to be questioned, Went outside marching around with his gun looking suspicious just asking to get get the cops called.

I really wouldn't be surprised if he called the cops on himself.

This kid didn't pwn anything. This video isn't amusing one bit.

Has anyone seen that new video out of the deer standing in the road, state cop walks up to it point blank an puts a round in its temple.

I give the cop credit for not acting condescending or confusing his personal ego with his power of authority to enforce the law. Cops are hired to enforce the law, not be a condescending, power tripping pricks like most cops appear to be once they inherit the smallest sense of power over others. He appeared willing to listen, and when confronted with the law, he was willing to uphold it and not take it personally that he might not have known as much as the citizen who has obviously studied it a bit. When the law was stated clearly, the cop did not make any derogatory gestures or quips for not being able to freely abuse his authority to screw with people, but allowed the citizen to walk free and went on his way.

Pretty good, only issues I see are 1. the kid sounded a bit nervous and edgy, like he loves to just school police and gets his jollies from it. carrying a gun down the road in open view? Why? And why the persecuted snot-nose tone to his speech? He might understand the law, but doesn't seem to understand people yet - he could have been a bit more chill so as not to scare the cold demeanor of officers who do deal with many hysterical psychos on a daily basis and 2. the officers should know the law a little better.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2976614

The cop really was polite and professional. where I'm at (temporarily) in the Phoenix EVERYONE carries open here. Grocery stores, kids parks, dog parks. It's an everyday sight (no pun). If this happened in an area where they have open carry but not many did, someone with a gun on their hip would stand out, so you can almost understand the concern.

I've been a gun owner all my life.Always will be. But I have to admit, there's a hell of a lot of people with NO experience or knowledge of firearms swaggering around looking cocky with their 45's on their hips. A few weeks ago a .22 fell out of a guys pocket and went off in a Panera Bread filled with people and kids at lunchtime. I get edgy when I'm in a grocery store thinking about if someone robs the place, there'll be twenty "heroes" pulling out their guns. I'm hitting the floor. Playing the devils advocate, it almost sounded like the guy was looking to be hassled by the cops so he could show off his legal knowledge and have a chance at being a big hot. He IS in law school. That means he's going to be an attorney, and we ALL KNOW HOW HONEST THEY ARE, don't we?

Two very un-smart comments.

I didn't hear what you called a "snot-nose tone". What I heard was a policeman putting on a "phony-let's-be-reasonable-scam-voice", wanting to be on a "first-name-basis" in order to solicit information from the student which he clearly had more sense than to want to give.

The policeman can never be your 'friend', because the relationship is unequal; he has the power to arrest you at the very least, and inflict a lot of pain, as well.

You will notice also that the cop only backed down when the other officer arrived and was a witness to the legal arguments of the student; he may have been the supervisor the student asked for off the top of the video. The first cop was clearly building a case against the kid in his own mind, and in his words and manner, before the other cop showed up.

As for the law student getting his jollies out of this confrontation, because he wants to be a "hot shot," looking forward to being a dishonest lawyer, I think you are hitting on an ad hominem argument because you know you have no logical grounds to criticize the kid.

I think you yourself are a cop, that's what I think.

By the way, if 20 heroes pull their guns in a grocery store, it will be no different from 20 cops on steroids pumping bullets at a suspect in the middle of a public intersection.

Actually, I think the citizen gunowners are safer to be around, because they don't act like a mob.

People are entitled the ALL of their Constitutional Rights NOT just the few the police decide you may enjoy.
 Quoting: anonymous coward 15383462

Careful... There are no such thing as Constitutional rights. Our rights are God given Unalienable rights/ natural rights we are born with. The constitution is the rule book/ leash that we the people have given our public serv_ants to keep them from trampling over our God given rights. Every American must know these rights and the constitution with our serv-ants have sworn to uphold and protect. They are also self enforced so dont expect our serv-ants to uphold them for you unless you stand up (politely) and enforce your kingship (sovereignty) on them. then and only then will they remember their Oaths thewy have taken. otherwise....they work for a Corporation called..."THE UNITED STATES" and could care less about you.... your their slave then.

No one's going to bother to point out this was the Portland police department? PORTLAND? FUCKING PORTLAND? Like the nicest city the borderline apocalyptic wasteland known as America has left?

It's pretty dishonest to post this video and act like it represents anything that could possibly happen in 99% of America.

In 99% of America, you'd get maced, tazed, dragged to jail, and killed from head trauma when thrown into your cell, all triggered the INSTANT you talked back to the cop with anything other than "yes sir".

You present this video in this dishonest manner as if it represents the attitude of a meaningful percentage of cops in America. It doesn't in the SLIGHTEST. Stop trying to give people hope that cops here are good people. ALL YOU HAVE DONE is given people who have visited this thread the hope that they can get away with talking back to cops, and THEY CAN'T. I guarantee you'll get your face fucked up if you do anything remotely similar to this, or maybe even killed. Fake hope is horrible; Fake hope KILLS. Shame on you OP.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50129211

Believe me I'm NO COP! I agree with most of what you wrote. And I'm living through an experience with a dishonest attorney right now. For the last SIX YEARS! I hired an attorney to form my LLC. She didn't word it correctly, we were audited and found out we were paying taxes in the wrong form and I lost EVERYTHING. My home and the business I put everything I had into and worked at 7 days a week for TEN YEARS! And she disappeared! even the IRS tried and couldn't find her.

I have no problem with "armed citizens". And you're right about "twenty cops on steroids" being far, FAR more dangerous. It's the experience thing with responsible gun ownership. It's a responsibility to know what you're doing. The inexperienced and untrained can be disarmed in a second. They can lose their cool and start blindly firing all over the place. Dangerous.

Look at the cop who was just shot with his own Glock during a demonstration at a grammar school. A 6 yr old reached up from behind and pulled the trigger of his gun and shot him in his leg. He was (supposedly, or supposed to be) "experienced". But having a loaded gun with no safety in reach of a child just isn't safe for anyone. And that's the way people are around this place. Ever been to Surprise Arizona?

I had a neighbor who lived in the apartment directly beneath me and my wife in LA and she had NO drug or alcohol problems. She was just really nervous/edgy. Say "hi" from twenty feet away and she'd scream and jump. She had a .45 and her bed was directly under ours. I was always worried something would startle her in the middle of the night, she'd pull the gun, which living in Los Angeles living alone I believe she should have, and would fire a round straight up in her anxiety.

If you read my previous post on the thread you'd see, I wrote about the cop getting a free law lesson from the guy. On the post you're commenting on I was just saying how the cop was not an over-the-top jerk. I've seen worse. And the attorney thing I wrote about was just one a few bad experiences with shithead lawyers. Like the one who tried to put my 85 yr old mother in jail for fraud. If he literally walked across the street he could have found she wasn't lying (inheritance thing). But he found it more fun to scare an old woman as soon as he found out she just had a triple bi-pass and was vulnerable. He lost, and his clients lost EVERYTHING because of it. But he, the attorney, did get all their money and they came out with nothing.

The girl who lived beneath us was Buster Keaton's grand-daughter. And now, I DO work with police canine officers and their dogs. That's as close to LEO's as I get. And believe it or not, there's a lot of good cops out there. It's the young hotheads that piss me off. Even older cops don't like them and there's a hell of a lot of them (young hotheads) out there now. Big shot punks with badges. Mehh...

but I have to sympathize with the officers because it is a little unorthodox to just be walking down the street with a gun, it's only a natural reaction for any officer to see whats up. Perhaps a better course of action for the cop may have been to just ask whats up, but not take the gun.
