So who's right?

Is it Fox with 350 ft. depth…

Or it is Al Jazeera with 5000 ft.?

Is the sinkhole a mile deep?

What with all these sinkholes happening around Florida it kinda seems like the whole area might be going under…

Maybe it's just a major land shift, of areas that were shaped in the forming of the Gulf of Mexico (asteroid crater) … basically just clods of land not being supported by much, with murky, gassy ocean underneath!

The locals are saying that nobody has been able to reach the bottom for exact measurements. I have "no link", but I live about 60 miles away and have friends/family in that area. I have no idea how true that is, but that is what they are saying. Just passing it on

CHECK OUT THIS WEBSITE, FROM A YEAR AGO!!

SNIP:

There is a sinkhole in Louisiana’s Assumption Parish (county) that could bring America to its knees. The first video below is 15 minutes long. It uses mainstream news to give us a background on salt dome sinkholes. It neglects the information the shorter video contains. That sinkhole is made from collapsing salt domes that are being used as storage for the US Strategic Energy Preserve and contains 18.5 million barrels of butane stored there at the request of the federal government. Why anyone would store butane near the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi river is a question that will be asked more than once after it blows sky high. Hint to the federal government: Water dissolves salt which causes enormous sinkholes.

The salt dome caverns are twice the height of the Empire State building. One of the caverns is unintentionally filling up with oil.

That first video also shows news clips of methane gas bubbling up from below the surface of the ground at dozens of locations in the area. There are lots of unexplained fires in the state as well which could be fueled by methane. And the local authorities have been trying to prevent explosions by checking for methane buildup in buildings. But what if the methane were to build up in caverns adjacent to the butane and oil? What would the resultant blast be equivalent to in terms of earthquakes and nuclear bombs?

Dr Paul Brown wrote a series of articles in which he concluded that the sinkhole could have a blast 100 times that of Hiroshima. But he was using the mainstream figures of 1.5 million barrels of butane which is what is in one of the caverns. But the total is 18.5 million barrels from all of the caverns plus the oil and the methane. An 8.35 earthquake has twice the blast power of a 25 megaton Hydrogen bomb. This sinkhole could seriously damage the state capitol Baton Rouge 50 miles (81 km) away. It might even damage New Orleans 75 miles (121 km) away as well as the levees on the Mississippi river. The latter protect against flooding when not blown up by the Mossad to save Jewish real estate investments.

Sure, no problem. WE had Lake Penior many years ago where a salt mine was breached. It sucked everything under in a huge area - like a giant whirl-pool. Lots of people down here are thinking this will give way and do the same thing. - - - That's the topic at many local restaurants at least. Problem is - nobody down here really knows anything either.

Re: Louisiana 25-acre sinkhole brings mini-earthquakes, explosion fears.
Scientists are now saying they will need to monitor for decades an enormous -- and growing -- Louisiana sinkhole that has already forced hundreds to evacuate, contaminated an aquifer and has been registering increased seismic activity, including mini-earthquakes.

What is known as the Bayou Corne sinkhole in southern Louisiana is now reportedly 25 or so acres in size and 350 feet deep, having opened in August 2012 when the wall of a subterranean salt mine collapsed and the ground above it was seemingly swallowed by the earth. It has since filled with water.

"While it was a manmade action that started this, it’s geology and natural forces that are making everything happen," Patrick Courreges, a policy analyst for the Louisiana Dept. of Natural Resources, told TheVerge.com. "And geology happens slow."

When it occurred, Assumption Parish reportedly ordered the 300-or-so nearby residents to evacuate their homes. Hundreds have done so, although more than a few have remained behind, regardless of the danger.

So who's right?

Is it Fox with 350 ft. depth…

Or it is Al Jazeera with 5000 ft.?

Is the sinkhole a mile deep?
 Quoting: Mister Obvious

The depth of the salt reaches down a mile.

The fail to mention how the aquifer had rock separating the salt from the water. While they were mining the salt the also busted the natural rock wall holding the water back.

Want a good example of how this is playing out?

Go to the beach. Dig a deep hole. Dig a tunnel in that hole. pour water over the tunnel from the top side and watch it all cave in.

Now take my example but apply it vertically.
