Libya Civil War? City of Misrata "courageous decision" to Withdraw from Libyan Government; from conscripts to congress leaving posts
On Friday, militias from the city of Misrata fired on unarmed protesters in the Capitol city of Misrata. here's thread - Thread: Tripoli Libya - Still Fighting on Saturday Night; at least 47 Killed & 518 wounded

There have been negotiations since Saturday to get the Misrata militas out of Tripoli. Looks like the negotiations didn't go well. The leaders of Misrata agreed to remove all of their militias and their politicians from Tripoli.

Sounds good, right?

Not so good. They are withdrawing all Misratans (congressmen, government officials, bureaucrats, militias, newly enlisted soldiers in Libyan army) from the Libyan government...

City of #Misrata takes collective measures to respond to the recent events in #Tripoli with celebrations welcome returning brigades. #Libya

The measures include withdrawal of all armed factions from Trip as well as Govt ministers & GNC members who represent #Misrata. #Libya #pt

The move comes as a collective response that the city is leaving security/political scenes in #Tripoli altogether. #Libya #Misrata #pt

The negotiations insisted that GNC/Govt figures representing Misrata shouldn't withdraw due to the serious ramifications of that.#Libya

However,forces/leaders in the city of #Misrata decided it was appropriate to announce such drastic measures in response to he events. #Libya

Here's a link discussing same announcement - [link to www.libyaherald.com]

meaning?

What would happen if California withdrew all of it's politicians & government employees from Washington. No more Congressman or Senators from Cali. Civil war, right?

Way to go Obama...your baby is now 2 babies.

Note - Misrata is the 3rd largest city in Libya. It's located in central Libya.

translation of the Misrata thuwar's (militia) reaction to the decision to withdraw from Libyan government

Celebrations throughout the streets of Misrata now, after a courageous decision taken by the people of Misrata.

Yes we will retire from everything, political and military.

Yes, we will withdraw from the south. Yes, we will withdraw from Tripoli.

Yes we will withdraw from the central region. Yes, we will withdraw from the government.

Yes, we will withdraw from the Congress.

Yes, we will go back to our city...

They said Misrata is the obstacle to the state, here, we left you everything.

Misrata's dreams of a city state are not new - see this statement from 2012

“These Bani Walid people; most of them are Bedouins. They don't like to wash themselves or to brush their teeth. They are like gypsies” a deep-rooted Misrati businessman said with contempt. He went on to hark for a different age, when the “Misrati governorate spread from Karabouli to Ras Lanuf”.

Why do we care if Libya falls apart?

From Sunday - Brent-WTI to spread expands to seven-month high on Libya

Brent crude gained, extending its premium over West Texas Intermediate to a seven-month high, amid concern that recurring protests in Libya will disrupt the North African nation’s oil exports for an extended period.

Seem Link above - Greater Misrata extended from Ras Lanuf ..,

Ras Lanuf is Libya's largest oil port...

BBC reports that Misrata Council ordered it's militias out of Tripoli; no mention of fact that politicians/bureaucrats/soldiers from Misrata also told to leave other parts of Libya and return to Misrata

Cyrenaica needs to succeed and form its own country.

1) libya didn't exist until 1947

2) Cyrenaicans are culturally split from the rest of 'libya'

3) Cyrenaicans have been discriminated against for the last half century

4) Cyrenaicans have the VAST majority of the nations oil wealth.

There is no reason to continue this occupation.

Re: Libya Civil War? City of Misrata "courageous decision" to Withdraw from Libyan Government; from conscripts to congress leaving posts
The negotiations with the Libyan Government didn't go well. The high level delegation that visited Misrata on Monday was forced to leave the city...

Prime Minister Ali Zeidan appears to have cut short a high-level meeting in Misrata this evening, after angry revolutionary fighters arrived yelling for him to go.

He had flown into the city accompanied by seven of his senior ministers; for economy, justice, telecommunications, labour, culture and electricity. The last, Ali Muhairiq is head of the commission that has been given the job of enforcing Law 27, which obliges all armed militias to quit Libyan cities.

All of the Misrata militias have left Tripoli. They have not left the cities near Misrata. Looks lie greater Misrata may be developing....it just won't be quick; unless there is another trigger.
