What is the LEAST terrifying way for an alien species to introduce itself to Earthling/Terran's?

They should pick a photogenic landmark

Also they should visit cosmopolitan places like Amsterdam, Istanbul and Vancouver.

let their spaceships use their lights
to flash a message saying

We are the government,
we're here to help

Those are the three places where they won't experience hostility or a zombie horde.

a well known landmark would probably help.. a message would probably help... best if something everyone could understand.

Only thing I would add is communication prior to fully reaching earth. A message of their intent or what not

They have to be advanced well beyond anything we can properly understand. Worst case scenario they let us shoot everything we have at them and shrug it off without retaliating. While doing this they fix the planet for us here and there. Fukushima, save an island from a tsunami, disarm nukes.
Make it obvious they are peaceful and we cant hurt them at the same time. Eventually we'll figure it out.

it was already down in Torchwood. they use the children. when contact is made it will be through the children.

That is right,such a moment is enevitable but the longer the "Wake them up " campaign is run the fewer will be too shocked once their paradigms are shattered by the contact.

Well, what they've been doing so far is stationing themselves in high energy places like on the tops of mountains, in the woods, around rock formations, etc., so that the people who are naturally drawn to those places will see them first, but also because they can send out positive energy more effectively in those places. They appear as beautiful, shining little orbs, and their numbers have slowly been increasing. They also do 'flyovers' over larger cities so that those people can see as well. They will not start a mass revelation until the majority of people ask for it though. Unfortunately it's going to take widespread calamity for that to happen...

I've been seeing more activity in the night sky.. I see something at least once a month now.. where as before I had only seen a couple of things that seemed out of the ordinary in decades.

I'd go with beamed in messages at first. Any first contact is going to cause panic, but receiving a message would be less shocking than them just hovering over some city announcing themselves.

They already have.....government keeping it quiet.
