Memorial Day - Remember our fallen heroes, & take time to thank a vet | |
Pollyannuh (OP) User ID: 46877 United States 05/29/2006 09:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | [link to www.thenation.com] My Soldiers, My Veterans" The wisdom of wars can be debated on any day, and this column has not hesitated to question the thinking -- or, to be more precise, the lack of thinking -- that has led the United States to the current quagmire in Iraq. But on Memorial Day, it is well to pause from the debate to remember those whose lives have been lost, not merely to the fool's mission of the contemporary moment but to all those battles – noble and ignoble – that have claimed the sons and daughters of this and every land. After the bloodiest and most divisive of America's wars, the poet Walt Whitman offered a dirge for two soldiers of the opposing armies -- Civil War veterans, buried side by side. His poem is an apt reminder that, when the fighting is done, those who warred against one another often find themselves in the same place. It is appropriate that we should garland each grave, understanding on this day above all others that wars are conceived by presidents and prime ministers, not soldiers. It is appropriate, as well, and perhaps a bit soothing, to recall Whitman's wise words: The last sunbeam Lightly falls from the finish'd Sabbath, On the pavement here, and there beyond it is looking, Down a new-made double grave. Lo, the moon ascending, Up from the east the silvery round moon, Beautiful over the house-tops, ghastly, phantom moon, Immense and silent moon. I see a sad procession, And I hear the sound of coming full-key'd bugles, All the channels of the city streets they are flooding, As with voices and with tears. I hear the great drums pounding, And the small drums steady whirring And every blow of the great convulsive drums, Strikes me through and through. For the son is brought with the father, (In the foremost ranks of the fierce assault they fell, Two veterans son and father dropt together, And the double grave awaits them.) And nearer blow the bugles, And the drums strike more convulsive, And the daylight o'er the pavement quite has faded, And the strong dead-march enwraps me. In the eastern sky up-buoying, The sorrowful vast phantom moves illumin'd, ('Tis some mother's large transparent face, In heaven brighter growing.) O strong dead-march you please me! O moon immense with your silvery face you soothe me! O my soldiers twain! O my veterans passing to burial! What I have I also give you. The moon gives you light, And the bugles and the drums give you music, And my heart, O my soldiers, my veterans, My heart gives you love. |

No one can bludgeon - bomb or kill others into Peace and Harmony....ONLY Peace can do that. We have to rise HIGHER than WAR. And before anyone goes sounding off about not wanting to serve my country....I am a Veteran. |

PEACE will come when people live In friendship, side by side, And cherish understanding More than hatred, greed and pride. PEACE will come when people see All people as the same, And no one has to live in fear, In ignorance, or shame. PEACE will come when people Who are needy can reach out For shelter, food, or love, And no has to do without. PEACE will come when people Learn to listen and to care About the rights and dignity Of people everywhere. PEACE will come when love and trust And kindness know rebirth, And on that day all people Will rejoice in peace on earth. ~By Amanda Bradley~ |

Zaphod Beeblbrox User ID: 83027 United States 05/29/2006 10:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are times when one must resort to violence. I wish it wasn't so same as the next guy but it is. WWII as an example, how would you have stopped Hitler with laurel leaves, doves and flowers? People who say things can not be solved with violence are very naive, sometimes it's the only way you will root out evil. This is in no way condoning what our "commander in cheif" is pulling in the middle east. I agree that what the ptb are attempting there will not work. But since ours is the side of evil in this maybe this says something about pure motives and a clear head. The United States is faced with a choice right now, face slavery, or root out the source of the evil in this country and kill it. You will not be given a chance to resolve this peacefully, that choice has been taken from you by the ptb in the hopes that American will is weakened to the point that the citizenry will submit to any affront rather than resort to violence. I submit to you that on this Memorial day the sacrifices of our brothers and sisters was completely in vain as long as we allow the insults to our freedom in this country to remain. I am outraged that the peice of dog dung that walks like a man is going to be laying the wreath at Arlington today. |

Ok japan attacked against you when they had been pushed back against the wall. Other times it has been 1 war/1 president and they always start with some kind of faked coup. |

You're looking at it from one side – if there are no soldiers on either side Hitler wouldn't have got very far. Incidentally you might want to look into that (ww2). It didn't happen how most people think it did. When will mankind wake up to the leaders and their manipulations? Never… I know WAR IS A RACKET – the bastion of liars thieves and murderers! |

starlight afar User ID: 94505 United States 05/29/2006 10:25 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Going to Wars is all done in trickery and lies so how can any of you who claim to be such church going religious believers serving God say I did it in the name of freedom. Was it freedom that our troops killed thousands of inocent people? Was it murder they had to be killed, yes! God is not a racist God, that is the Creator of all spirit beings in their present bodies be it an American or Muslim. How do you think the Iraq widows feel if they were to see President Bush placing a wreath for those he sent to kill their loved ones? No, we never think that way do we, why because our mainstream media has Americans programmed to only see it how they want it seen and told. |

Yes, thank-you for willingly becoming apart of the murderous machine. Without your continued slav… er… support, my Halliburton stock would be worth much less and I might even be forced to sell one of my Bentley's. Thank-you! PS – remember, this is what they ALL really think of you twits that join the forces to defend 'freedom'. Former First Lady Barbara Bush said of the war in Iraq: "Why should we hear about body bags and deaths? It's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?" |

I am sure it gives Bush great pleasure to see all his sheep celebrate Satan's religion along with him. Now if millions of people celebrated God yesterday on Pentecost the nation would be a restored nation. But the people are still rebellious. They need to get serious about repenting. But watch millions celebrate the 4th of July along with Bush. They should all be repenting from it. |

For what noble purpose do thousands of our young people live crippled lives? Dead because of a lie. Dead because selfish people in government wanted a war and lied to get one, aided by selfish people in the media WHO TOOK MONEY FROM GEORGE BUSH TO LIE TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. The government and the media traded the blood of these young Americans for their personal gain. Look at their faces. How can you not be angry? [link to www.whatreallyhappened.com] Go to the link.
