Since WND first reported that residents in the state of Louisiana were petitioning to secede from the U.S., residents in over 30 more states have filed requests with the White House to peaceably break from the union. [ link to mobile.wnd.com] won't happen in our lifetimes may be after 400 yrs,american states will be racially /linguistically/religiously segregated ,actual secession will happen Look at history of roman empire and eastern byzantine empire,look at china,turkish ottoman empire,india I think the key to any sort of change is a state where the people can no longer survive within the system created by it's government. When people start starving on mass, then you'll see the change in government. Either through secession, or rolling into dictatorship. I suppose the question is each state would need to be examine to see if there's enough economic might/powerful people in the state in question who would oppose a move towards martial law. The US revolution occurred because there were many wealthy, powerful, and well connected men from each state willing to put their neck on the line because the benefits of being out from under crown law was worth the risk. USA will never reach that situation..remember russia,china,india went through mass starvation and nothing much changed Brits brought 3 major holomodors to india,where 40 million died but it didn't end empire.It took Hitler to end english empire Mao killed 60 million chinese but nobody challenged him and chinese still refer him as saviour Stalin also killed millions and russians still obeyed him Absolutely. It has to be a combination of common resentment and leadership with some sort of power. (Control of resources, economic power, military power, etc.) If there is no opposition there is no change of state. People run to things, not from them.
