Update 04/09 -- Seismic uptick -- New Madrid, MO

We felt it all the way over to Long Island...

My wife and I heard a boom that rattled the house in NE OH/ NW PA a couple of days ago. It was around 12:30 am and woke us up. I looked around the place expecting to see a car in a tree. All the critters around the place where up and looking all around but real quiet. I made a thread but can't find it in the search function.

What do you think about Yellowstone? think it will go off soon?

IF it went off as bad as has been speculated, we'd be close to that NW of Austin, Texas ourselves.

Or during a drought, like the one that we had a couple of years ago.

The precursors are there with the swarming quakes.
Yellowstone is just like the New Madrid, it is not if; but when.

We would be useless human beings if we sat and worried about the potentials that mother earth can throw at us. All we can do is be aware of the potential dangers and prepare the best we can, not only with bacon, beans and bullets, but in our minds.

At least that is what I try to do and keep an eye on things so that we are not caught unaware!

Knowing this area as I do, it hurts my heart to even think of what could happen.

Most of the area, within the NMFZ, is old and poor. Years ago, I think it was '98, we had the 100 year flood. It flooded several towns on the Mississippi. I helped sand bag, and when I wasn't doing that I was delivering food and supplies.

That event really etched a memory. Poor little babies that lost their homes, businesses flooded, the gross loss of animal life. It was incredible.

When I think of all the families that live in old brick homes that are not up to code and add the damage of the mighty Missisip on to that ...
When the NMFZ occurs, it will be the biggest disaster America has ever seen. I think the only other natural disaster that can trump it is Yellowstone or maybe the San Andreas.

USGS sometimes takes days to report quakes in the Arkansas area and some, that clearly show up on the seismos are never posted, for some reason, maybe a valid one, but still. They are very slow to update the quake maps and most do not make it to the national maps of quakes. They are listed only to local shake maps by [link to folkworm.ceri.memphis.edu]
If a large event is going to happen on the New Madrid chances are it will be picked up by [link to quakepredictor.net] first. Usgs will tell you about it after the fact, not much use in that from a protection standpoint. The Marked Tree area produced an 8.0 in 1811. That areas helicorder/seismo was off for days recently. You would think considering the history of that area it would be given a bit more priority.

I have been watching quakepredictor.net.

How do they get their data? I follow them on FB, as well as their Geiger counter readings.

And yeah, one would think that there would be priority for this info, but I have a sick feeling that the folks in charge do not think the same way as I.

You have a good sense, your sick feeling is correct. And its worse than your politely understated perception of course. Horribly worse.

The important thing is, everybody still had a budget-blowing Saturnalia and much energy was raised for the Horned God/dess.

Those folks need to come visit me ...

UPDATE 12/27


Many CERI data streams still off line.

They are up and running. Some of the links you have to click on twice to make it come up.

And a bunch of them are showing something wierd at the 12 minute mark, like at 1242hrs today (ie, 12 minutes after the 1230hrs ticker starts its course).

But a couple of others show anomalies at like 1312hrs, so I am thinking it is something going on at the 12 minute mark.

Anything happen at 1242 today in the region?

So it is a glitch.

Maybe somebody starts up the coffee maker and jostles the gadget.

I am originally from Ohio and I responded to that thread. If I find it, I will post it.

if you know the title, the GLP search function should do it, but sometimes it does not.

I have found threads by going to Bing (Google if you must!)and that takes you back to wherever it is on this site. Strange but it works.

UPDATE 03/10


I have been monitoring the Memphis seismo today, because of the big quake this morning off the west coast.

There are big gaps of time missing on the seismos, all of them on this site between 9 AM and 2:15 PM:

There is some good activity on some of them before the data is cut off.
