It goes without saying these are the same kind of people that sit on their high horse and say things like "we need better sex education" and blame the schools. When in reality the sex education in schools only works if people choose to use the information given to them.... |

This is true especially in Africa where it is mostly transmitted by heterosexual activity. Also most people who get HIV usually get other venereal diseases as well. Gay people have always been around. Bisexual people have always been around. Prostitutes (of both sexes) have always been around. People like sexual play. Unless you do something to discourage people from promiscuous behavior and promote good hygiene (prophylactic use etc) then the transmission rates are going to be higher. Making sex acts illegal doesn't seem to stop anyone from engaging in the activity you want to stop. There have been studies that suggest the more restrictive a society is towards sex the more hidden promiscuity becomes of all groups. People do everything imaginable. Around and in every city are parks where men meet to play. This is really a sad state of promiscuity. A lot of book stores shut down which some said promoted promiscuity. The areas around here where men meet are regularly raided by the police. You can't even go in some of these parks without getting approached or seeing something you don't want to see. I know this happens everywhere. I joke with a lot of people about this kind of stuff but its not something that's going to stop since there are married men who "cruise" these places all the time. Movies and TV have been bad at promoting promiscuous behavior. The sexual revolution of the 70s did much damage to the idea of monogamous behavior. Some people will always be monogamous while others can never be. Most people don't teach sexual hygiene at home or any kind healthy relationship activity. Most people don't know how to address it and may be embarrassed with their own desires, successes and failures. During the '80s I heard dozens of these stories and yes, all of them had components of trauma. The source of the trauma was being treated like shit for being gay NOT being treated like shit and becoming gay. |
