Lady Wolf User ID: 43247427 United States 11/29/2013 02:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I work for Blackjack Pizza and we are always close on Thanksgiving. We are also closed on Christmas and 4th of July. Quoting: Chuck Well that's good. Even if people don't celebrate these holidays, there's nothing wrong with being forced to take a little me time. I think that's why I like late Christmas Eve so much. It's like finally everyone has just stopped, calmed down, and relaxed. It's like one giant exhalation, and it just feels so calming and peaceful. Nice thread Op and kudos to you for posting it and to this manager for standing up for what's right at the risk of losing his job! I recently did this myself but over something completely different that I believed in..so I know how he feels. As for Christmas Eve...it's anything but peaceful at my house as that's when we often celebrate Christmas..but I do find the ambiance of having it on CE where the Christmas tree is beatifully illuminated as well as the Christmas lights outside..very nice:) If we do wind up having it on Christmas day due to work schedules, we throw out the traditional Christmas dinner and have Christmas brunch complete with a Ham and a waffle bar. It's quite a hit with our family and our friends that join us. :) Thank you, and good for you for taking a stand. Baby steps for all of us... Sounds like a fun Christmas no matter what day you have the dinner! When I said it felt peaceful, I just meant that when I go outside on Christmas Eve, there's a sense of calm on that one night of the year. It's like everything just comes to a quiet standstill. I know what you mean...and my favorite song to hear after all of the festivities die down is Silent Night and you're right, the calm and peaceful feeling is almost palpable. Ever watch A Christmas Story? And the scene where the house is all quiet and the two little boys are sound asleep and the mom and dad are standing at the window with the snow falling softly outside with the lights dim inside and just being in that moment of peace together. That's how I feel once it's all over :) And not to thread drift too far, but when I take down my tree each year and put it all away...I find myself wondering where we will be by next Christmas..who will no longer be with us and who will have joined our family..what hurdles and challenges we'll over come and what blessings will befall us. It's a great time of reflection and pondering for me. Real truth is self evident... |

Only because the story got a lot of attention, and Pizza Hut was trying to save face. Yes, the calculated decision was that he could not leave that job and have people rally behind him. That would lead to less money for the bosses. So they offered him a job back after he wrote that they were greedy and immoral. Well now he gets to deal with them after having said that if he does return. If that were me I would not go back there. The management will hold the matter against him or hassle him down the road. Yet, he actually acted like a leader and managed the situation. They were asking him to make his staff people come in or he would fire them. Enough, the hell with that fake meat and GMO dought pizza anyway. Agreed, I would not go back either. I wish I could tell my bosses what I think, but I have nothing lined up. The day will come though, and I can't wait. I'm tired of greedy, immoral "leaders." |

Quoting: Ms. Superduper I also like when a person stands up for what they believe in. I wish there were a lot more people who would adhere to their principles. Whatever this person ends up doing, whether he works for the pizza place or somewhere else, I believe God will bless him for it. And, we better start standing up. We just better. There will come a time for each of us, whether it be about a job, or something else. Get ready for it. First things first. Seek first the kingdom of God and all the rest shall follow. Yes. I can relate to his story on point anyway. I did the right thing last year by retiring from the legal community to care for mom in her last years. At first my flesh tried to say - no - you can't do this. How will you make it? I just trusted God, lived on less and here we are. I'm good and so is everyone else. Again, thanks. (P.S. Pizza Hut is crummy. It used to, years ago, be okay, but the last time I ate from there a few years ago, it was greasy and fast-foody.) :) Thank you for reading it. "And, we better start standing up. We just better. There will come a time for each of us, whether it be about a job, or something else. Get ready for it." I agree, and for me personally, it is getting harder and harder to face myself working for the people I do. I love part of my job, but dealing with my bosses who I feel have zero morals is getting almost impossible to do. I can hardly stand to look at them. It's beautiful to hear that everything turned out after leaving your job to be there for your mom. |

Why be upset at the store? If nobody shopped and/or ate out on Thanksgiving, stores wouldn't open. Business 101. We should be mad at ourselves for taking part in the greed/convenience. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 50502232 Finland 11/29/2013 06:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The best time to be on vacation is when everybody else is working. I've always hated it when everything gets shut down for Christmas, for instance, and I've got to take days off, too. Before I got married, I used to work all Christmas and take time off in January. Great fun and even got paid extra. Everything's open, so you don't just have to sit at home and get bored or annoyed by your relatives. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 15740069 United States 11/29/2013 06:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When I was 16 I worked at a Pizza Hut making pizzas. We had a really bad manager there that would close the place down when his friends worked there. They put a handwritten sign in the window that said the place was closed for the night. They would sit out front all night drinking beer from the kegs and eating pizza. |

There are too few role models on how to live life the way it was created to be lived and by going back and living life that way, the guy is a strong, credible witness to that way of life. We become like that to which we are devoted. - Choose wisely. |

True, but it's very difficult to work for people whose morals/ethics you strongly disagree with. |
