US blinked first, sadly "Washington tells airlines to notify Chinese authorities if flying through area amid escalating tensions in South China Sea" [ link to www.theguardian.com] they didn't blink, all American airlines have to follow the authorities of the countries they are approaching due to safety afaik sorry to piss on that fire the US hasn't blinked at all... Yeah they are different Islands to those being disputed by Japan Spratly Islands, Paracel Islands, Pratas Islands, Macclesfield Bank, Scarborough Shoal are in the South China Sea East china sea... Senkaku Islands AKA Diaoyu Islands and some others are the ones that are the ones in the news recently... the ones in the south china sea are the ones claimed by People's Republic of China, the Republic of China, and Vietnam, with Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines
