The STEREO HI-1 & HI-2 cameras are specially designed to image the faint billowing plasma of particles in the solar wind from Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs). This is why the planets are usually too bright and distorted from bleeding pixels. The more refined (processed) images used to make the movie previously posted of the dead comet-corpse ISON bring out even more subtle and faint details even while attenuating the image to reduce the over-saturated planet pixels. I'm not sure how it's done, I'm just telling what I've seen. It then goes back into the deepest parts of our solar system and recollects a bunch of stuff, all to pass us again in 430,001 years from now.
