I am a just a bit read on SA history, but I believe above poster is right. South Africa when the Boer came was a largely uninhabited land, pretty sure only one tribe existed there and they were peacefully coexisting. It was the northern Africans who seen the success of the whites on that land and wanted it for themselves and started to migrate. So to me, that would be like a group of African migrants coming to America and starting a successful, thriving community in uninhabited mountainous regions in north america, then us whites coming and saying, "America for whites, Africa for blacks, go back to where you came from. No. Get over it people, pretty much all but countries like Japan have multiple races inhabitting them. Get over it and live peacefully.

The OP is right. I emailed a former business colleague in Johannesburg after a similar thread today. She said they are nervous, nothing had happened in their neighborhood. However tensions are high and the rumors are every where.
