On Monday, 16 Sept, after considerable effort transmitting low-level hardware commands, we determined that there were no other plausible scenarios under which we could recover command and control of the spacecraft. We recommended that NASA declare the mission lost. That declaration was announced by NASA on Thursday, 19 Sept.

you guys do know that every time there is a new flare they generate a different chart and delete the previous flare right? i've been watching iSWAC for two years now and that is far from out of the ordinary.

If you look at the picture as a 3D space, as it should be, MAVEN is not "aligned" with ISON, MAVEN is nowhere near ISON.

MAVEN's trajectory to Mars in tangent to Earth's solar orbit, ISON is way above the ecliptic now, but even if they were close MAVEN doesn't seem to have instruments to study a comet.

I agree that one has to think in 3d to understand position.

I was simply pointing out the updated NASA model, which you have to admit is a bit interesting!

They said it was a glitch and took it off line for a few days the last time. Now happening again as Ison is getting closer. I'm sure they'll say it's a glitch again.
