You are a true patriot!
Yes, as through this world I've wandered
I've seen lots of funny men;
Some will rob you with a six-gun,
And some with a fountain pen.

And as through your life you travel,
Yes, as through your life you roam,
You won't never see an outlaw
Drive a family from their home.

these cameras are digital, ie the photo detector is a silicon array. Silicon has peak sensitivity in the infra red. If you build an LED illuminator for the plate using IR LEDs the camera will be over exposed. Your plate will be lost in bright light.

Re: How to Beat a Photo-Enforced Speeding Ticket
Kansas City has red light cameras and they are a pain in the ass. Skid marks can be found at all of them, and there are times the intersections get messed up and people get stuck out in them. (This happened to me when making a left turn. 2 cars ahead was a cop car and he stopped right in the middle of the road and we were all screwed.) They're supposed to "reduce accidents" but they don't. You just get more people rear ending each other.

Re: How to Beat a Photo-Enforced Speeding Ticket
I received a red-light camera ticket in Seattle. I recall the incident. The light went yellow as I was nearly to the intersection, and I was the only vehicle in sight. I had a choice of slamming my breaks and waiting for two minutes, or continuing on my merry way, no harm, no foul.

I actually read the fine print on the ticket. It stated that failure to pay would only result in collection efforts--no points or suspension.

I use the letter as a cookbook-mark. I did get two letters from phony collection agencies, which went into the recycle bin.

Re: How to Beat a Photo-Enforced Speeding Ticket
Ya know some actually deserve a speeding ticket.

we've all seen those idiots who speed down the pike at 90mph. I don't care if they kill themselves but if they kill someone else that is a tragedy.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 10755494

Going 5-7 mph over the speed limit is still too slow for 90% of the populace. Everybody is in everyone's way, very sad indeed. 2 timothy 3:1-6
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51427320

I've very little tolerance for excessive speeders and those who think they have to be in front of the pack.

Tailgaters...if I'm in the proper lane and observing safe road speed ...the closer you get to my bumper the slower I go.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51438446

Likewise, I've very little tolerance for self-righteous drivers in the left lane traveling at or below recommended speed limits, all the while looking in their rear-view mirror to knowingly and voyeuristically observe the string of frustrated drivers lined up behind them while at the same time failing to observe the traffic signs which clearly state, "Slower Traffic Keep Right."

Your self-righteousness is just as dangerous as the self-righteousness of the "speeder".

It's not your job to police the motives of other drivers. Are they habitual speeders? Are they on their way to the hospital? Late to an appointment? Just robbed a bank?

Does the road you're on have a speed limit of 50 mph because terrain and typical traffic conditions? Is it because the speed limit was set 60 years ago when ABS didn't exist and has never been updated? Is it because the city or county progressives lowered the speed limit from 50 to 65 because they're mandating gas mileage efficiency b.s.?

You don't know. So stop being a self-empowered douche causing more danger, and just get out of the way or pull over and wait for the "excessive speeder" to pass and call the cops if it makes you feel better.

ITS CALLED FREEDOM.

Speeding is NOT against the law.

Speed limits are a direct violation of the 4th.

Know your rights.

Your rights cannot be taken away...
Only you can give them away.

I wish people could just follow the Constitution.

Why is this so hard.?

LOL!!!

And to all you sheep at least try to use Excessive when you bow down to the will of your overseers. Or better yet exceeding a posted speed limit. Speed only is slang for velocity. "Speeding" like all sheep is but a non existing word trap you fell for day one. There is no "velociting". Both = the time traveled between 2 points. But instead the common idiot associates speed with bad and evil just as they do with gun. But both magically become good and heroic when used to take over another country or to come and save your sorry asses during a break in or hostage situation.

is it called not speeding?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 45916084

You're right! BUT...

I was entering a school zone and the speed limit goes from 45 to 35 to 25 quick enough that you have to use your brakes.

I was being tailgated by some kid, I assume because of the car, and kept touching my brakes to slow down. He got closer and closer then accelerated and passed me in the shared left turn lane. The camera flash went off and I thought he got caught.

Nope! I was! The damn camera is pointed only down the lane I was in, NOT the turn lane. So the radar read HIS speed while taking a picture of MY car.

REDFLEX is the camera company. I went to court and was up against their attorney, since THEY get a percentage of the fine, the officer that signed off on the ticket AND the local prosecuting attorney. Two lawyers and a cop who are in court every working day of their lives vs me. Guess who lost, paid a $250 fine, PLUS ANOTHER $110 for "traffic class" held by some fool who knows less about driving and safety than I do. I drove an ambulance in Los Angeles for 1 1/2 years! The jerk couldn't even answer my questions!

27 YEARS without a ticket didn't make a difference to the judge. I think the attorneys, cop and judge have sex orgies together on weekends and have each other's backs.

REDFLEX is pure evil. At the time I researched and found they had 52 law suits against them for fraudulent reports to counties and municipalities concerning accident numbers and how much can be profited from the camera's. And never mentioning the REAL truth about the INCREASE in rear end collisions at stoplights from people braking fast at yellow lights to avoid being photographed.

Screw REDFELX. And anyone and everyone who has anything to do with their legal rip-off company. It's no wonder to me at all they're based here in Phoenix. Sheriff Joe's playland where the education system is the lowest in the country and most of the world while GIVING the Chicago Cubs $100 MILLION for their spring training camp here. I'm out of here in a couple of months and counting the days.

REDFLEX, rip off lawyer butt wipes and losers making our world even more difficult and making millions while doing it.

Yup... happened to me. My wife was driving my car but they sent ME the ticket. I did go into court and told the judge that the picture of the person driving was not me. She said, "I agree it's not you, dismissed!".

Since the car was registered in my name I got the bill and my wife was not that registration.

I consulted my attorney with Pre-Paid Legal (now Legal Shield) and he advised the same thing in the link. Deny it was you and if asked who it was tell them it is the courts responsibility to prove guilt. I have no obligation to testify against myself and I will not.... never came to that but was ready to say it if asked.

Re: How to Beat a Photo-Enforced Speeding Ticket
My adopted sister got a photo radar tkt in the mail. She had already had several, already been to driving school a few times, already had a big increase in her insurance. She decided to go in person to protest the ticket.
She told the authority that it wasent her driving. She swore the person in the picture was not her. The authority declined to cancel her tkt, and when she started to get upset, he mentioned to her that she was right now wearing the Exact Same Outfit she was also wearing in the photo radar picture of her speeding.

My Question: "How can anyone be this STUPID?"

A few friends I have told this story to
Refuse to believe it,
But I can assure you this is true and really happened.

1st, Saying "You people" is highly discriminatory and is no different then blind racism.

2nd, If you ever go to court, using a lawyer is no different. Regardless of the charge (traffic or criminal), legal representation is just that....representation.

Again, should you ever use a lawyer in court, you are declaring yourself as a hypocrite of the worst order.

Well here in Maryland, in our once great city of Baltimore, now run by do gooder liberals, the city had to permanently disable the speed cameras because they were issuing so many false tickets, giving tickets to people that were stopped at lights, parked on the side of the street

Of course they keep threatening us to turn them back on

Filters are used to block IR. But the filter allows the edge of IR frequencies to be visible.

By nature of design, the digital camera sensors can see wavelengths far beyond that of a humans eyes.

Saturating an IR filter with IR can blind the cam.

You have to have one and test it, it may work and it may not.
You could wire up some collection of IR strobes like the Firefly issued by your military.
You can generate a IR source strong enough to wash out focus.
You could build a radar jammer but that would be illegal.
You could put a reflective or louvered cover over the plate but that in itself would be an infraction if caught.

I dont recommend speeding in town, the cost in fuel alone is worse over time than the occasional ticket fee, and on the express way, I stay behind a large vehicle and draft them , reducing speeding tickets, large animal impacts and saving anywhere from 25 to 50% on fuel, naturalment one has to keep an eye out for cops to avoid tailgating ticket, but those are rarely handed out

On a color camera pointing an array of ir's directly at it, a foot away, you can just see the red of the ir working….no effect.
Black and white camera with ir pointing at it….wipes it out as described.(only tested it in the dark)
These are the results I pretty much already knew…
You know, pointing the ir's at your PLATE would be more effective than at the camera(outward) I do believe…from my limited experience on the subject.

It's a great idea and would work very well at night….but, then came daylight.

I'm a couple years behind on technology, I will admit…so maybe something has changed I'm unaware of?
