the only way to truly be prepared for that scenario is not to buy all kinds of gear and guns and ammo and armored vehicles etc, the only way is to live like you have no money now, so when the money is taken away you will already be prepared to be self supportive. IE grow your own food, make your own clothes, learn the art of bartering with other people, anything else is just talk....

i agree and that thought is what made me write this post. the more people become broke, the more there is a need to band together to make it through. i don't think there will be much fighting necessary (in a collapse) but people will have to struggle to survive, and i have always told friends that is one area we here in the united states are lacking in, good strong networks of people who are like minded and confident/trustworthy of each other. the prepper community is all about the opposite. mistrust and paranoia over everyone else, be it government or neighbor. people here wouldn't stand a chance fighting most neighbors much less the government. over in iraq, afghanistan, pick your country, these groups (al-qaida, hamas, etc) have networks that they use to communicate, and plan, and resupply, and feed, and house people, and they still get there asses kicked! here in america we are lucky if people even know there neighbors name never mind trust them enough to help when shtf. those networks take generations to build and we don't have them and probably never will. so any fighting people think will happen in my opinion is a pipe dream.

whats more likely to happen IMHO is some sort of attack on a BRANCH of government, IE the supreme court as a whole, as opposed to a PERSON in government, IE the president. that would leave the country in a constitutional crisis leaving one branch to assume "legal control" over the entire government. at that point orders from a dictator, IE the president, would be "lawful" according to them and most employees (military) i fear would follow them unchallenged. the people wouldnt stand a chance after that, and lets admit it most governments in history that have attempted power grabs like ours has been usually dont fail in there attempt to gain that power, they will fall later in history, but the power IS grabbed AND wielded. so if there will be no chance of mounting a fight against it what do most people do? you should spend time trying to build those networks and trust amongst our neighbors so that our children MIGHT stand a chance in the future.

I raise chickens and I have lots of eggs I give them to my neighbors. We live in the Appalachian mountains, most of us are dirt poor, we raise our own food, can our food and then when season is in we have deer meat on the table and deer jerkey for snacks. Wild turkey for thanksgiving. Spring time is wonderful morals (mushrooms) a definite treat we freeze the extra or dehydrate for later. Several years ago everyone in my area was without power for 2 weeks and it didn't phase most of us just cooked on the wood stove down stairs. If you don't live it may be really hard to adapt.
