The answer is that “God raised him up.” No doubt, the majority of references point to God the Father. Where we read, “God raised Jesus,” we should certainly take this as a reference to God the Father. This emphasizes a number of things. First, it is the God to whom Jesus cried, and into whose hands Jesus committed his Spirit, who raised him from the dead. In Matthew 27:43, we read of the chief priests mocking Jesus: “He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, 'I am the Son of God.’” By the resurrection, Jesus’ claims regarding his relationship as Son to the Father were proved to be true, and God the Father was proved to be faithful to all who trust in him. Moreover, Peter could say, “The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree” (Acts 5:30), so that the resurrection was a proof that the Old Testament is a fulfillment of Christ.
