BBC Radio Bristol ‏@bbcrb 13 min Plimsoll Bridge broken since 4.20pm. Extensive queues in all directions. @BristolCouncil say diversion signs are up. No comment on repairs. |

[link to www.meteociel.fr] That's too far ahead in these models to be worrying yet, but yes... yikes. It could be an interesting Christmas if a 930mb depression goes right across the West Coast. The storm surge near the focus would be immense. I don't understand the meteorology behind these models, but it's striking how these storms seem to be insulating the area of the next one's formation from high pressure systems - it almost seems to be allowing them to build up and get larger and deeper each time. Surely this has got to be related to the Arctic low across the US, but a whole succession of these things just isn't normal... |

Strong winds and outbreaks of heavy rain are expected in northern Lincolnshire later this week as the so-called Storm Emily hits the UK. Though the area is predicted to escape the worst of the bad weather, gusts of up to 50mph are possible on Wednesday evening and into Thursday. [link to www.scunthorpetelegraph.co.uk] Prepare for Storm Emily! Deadly 100mph gales and blizzards to hit Britain on Christmas Day Forecasters gave the ominous double warning as two vast weather depressions edged towards the UK. The second is expected to lead to an extremely stormy festive period over the entire country. [link to www.express.co.uk] |

Hey Luis, great to see you're not giving up on the weather! I bet they all will then be on their merry way East over to us, providing positive temperatures and absolutely no snow for our Christmas. Which is on the 7th due some calender errors. That also means I won't get decent night skies for my astrophotography. Such a shame. It's already melting over here, well melting then freezing to make Moscow one large skating ring. If any foreign minister begins to defend to the death a "peace conference," you can be sure his government has already placed its orders for new battleships and aeroplanes. |

Storm has been downgraded anyways for Thursday/Friday. NI will get it most and parts of western scotland. Other than that, there will be no snow, just plenty of wind and rain until at least the new year. +VE all December, strong Vortex. 926 will never happen, and there wont be sustained hurricane force winds, but it will be strong, and it will be windy. You are right with the 5 storm systems though, its' looking like a grim xmas for the UK. The main system is xmas eve/day and boxing day, thats the one to watch out for. |

GFS, ECMWF, JMA all disagree on the location of the lows final position as well. Wouldn't like to be a TV forecaster.. It's rather going to batter somewhere, or just end up with 50MPH winds. [link to f1.nwstatic.co.uk] 952mb LP, which is low, but not 926mb or 943mb... Hence the downgrade in force. |
