This is a different Comet Lovejoy (C/2013 R1)....not Comet Lovejoy (C/2011 W3).....R1 perihelion is the 25th.

That's a beauty, our weather has turned a bit crap so I don't know if I will get the chance to see it again but I do hope I will.

You get the prize for trying to stir up some interest in Lovejoy, unfortunately people are too interested in now imaginary comet ISON to bother going outside to see a real one :(

It looks really nice OP! I wish I could discover a comet sometimes. But as most pioneer things it's been automated now. Besides, I've read in our Russian astronomy forum, that the International Society delays the comet discovery noticed by Russians, so European and American guys could get the claim and the name. Anything for some fame, eh?

Stars really don't bother me....I feel the same when I get 1 or 5. Comets are real and mysterious objects and no two are the same. Have you ever seen a Comet? How could anyone look up in the sky and see something stretched halfway across the sky with the electric blues and greens and reds and not be amazed is beyond me.

Sounds like Dr. Astro needs to get out there and make some discoveries to catch up...unless Dr. Astro IS Terry Lovejoy..dun dun dunnnnnnn.

Seriously, though, is Lovejoy '13 a naked eye object, or does it have the potential to become one? If so, where/when will we see it?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a view of really dark skies, you may be able to see it naked eye, just before sunrise. It's now getting closer to perihelion so it is harder to see. I can see it in 10x50 binoculars easy but is almost too low for me to get it with the scope.
