Should The Situation Become Critical, Russia Will Have To Rescue The Astronauts! Hmmm... I feel Fox is being a bit sensationalist here. ISS has been relying on Russia for taxi service since the shuttles were decommissioned anyway, plus there is always a Soyuz capsule docked (how do you think they got up there?). So to evac they simply go down the same way they got up, in the Russian Soyuz craft they've been using since the shuttles were mothballed... hardly what you'd call a dramatic Russian rescue mission the way Fox news is painting it. The crews ride is literally parked outside. The repair will be done next week by replacing the valve with a spare that is stored on an external platform for just such an event. [link to www.nasa.gov] Of course any spacewalk is dangerous and any time an astronaut EVAs they are literally risking their lives. But I do feel that Fox are being somewhat overly dramatic... particularly with the whole Russian rescue thing. It is after all the International Space Station hmm? Now all that said, this is still pretty exciting and I hope we get some good streaming footage of the work, I for one will be glued to my screen while this is happening. 'Magically Delicious' |

Should The Situation Become Critical, Russia Will Have To Rescue The Astronauts! This is a repeat. When the ISS is evacuated; (for whatever reason stated), that will be the demark for the coming disasters. I (who is not needed to know); was purposed to use this sight since 1995, while under other management, as the fool Aussie Bloke, was fabricated only for the purpose to send the site viral. It was an economic issue. As 'Noted and warned', I left the country. Temporarily to Costa Rica for necessary reasons. And I said so back then. Since then you have all these so-called 'Preppers' dramatics that are happening as of late. We knew it would take a 'long' time to become imminent, but those of us up in years see it another way. Speaking out; way back then, was the only way to initialize the process. So now you have it , young people. You all need to think about your future. ~Godspeed~ |

Should The Situation Become Critical, Russia Will Have To Rescue The Astronauts! Should the situation become critical, NASA would have to rely on Russia to rescue the space station. Quoting: Krystal [link to www.foxnews.com] FROM ARTICLE: But should an emergency occur they will need to rely on Russia's Soyuz spacecraft to return home. "If there were an emergency on the space station, the crew could use the Soyuz to leave the space station and return to Earth," NASA's website reads. "Russia helps the United States run the International Space Station ... but only Russian spacecraft carry people to it right now." I said this a few days back….. Anyone wondered why they released this video this year? Yes this makes perfect sense for how "they" do things. If anything, I would imagine they would use ISON to somehow cause satellite damage, to have a communications blackout. |

Should The Situation Become Critical, Russia Will Have To Rescue The Astronauts! If the Russians have to pick up the astronauts and bring them down, who brings down the ISS? Does it just continue in orbit unmanned or does it fall? Quoting: Serendipitous same thing that happens to all mankinds "really big deals" when he's grown tired of them and is off into some other rabbit hole, likely to ensure prolonged survival in some regard, with specific reference to his own... what does that tell you about the value therein? empty vessels, the lot |

Should The Situation Become Critical, Russia Will Have To Rescue The Astronauts! Good thing we have an armored Soyuz docked and ready to be used as an escape vehicle :D Ballistic re-entry is never fun. But it's viable if they want to get down to Earth in a jiffy! PS! I have a feeling it won't go as planned. People in space circles are getting their feathers all ruffled all over Russia.
