China to evacuate S Sudan oil workers to capital

BEIJING: National Petroleum Company, a main oil investor in South Sudan, is evacuating oil workers to the capital, Juba, amid continued fighting in the world’s newest country, a company official and state media said on Friday. State news agency Xinhua said CNPC planned to fly out 32 workers. “We are arranging the orderly evacuation of our workers, but the affected oilfield was not operated by CNPC,” said a CNPC media official, without commenting on whether the company’s oil production was affected. Xinhua said an oilfield in the northern part of South Sudan, operated by a consortium of Indian, Malaysian and South Sudanese companies, was caught up in unrest on Thursday that killed 14 South Sudanese oil workers. China’s Foreign Ministry said that the embassy there would help evacuate Chinese nationals.

Several dead bodies were seen floating on the River Nile downstream from Juba since the outbreak of violence in the city last Sunday, eyewitnesses told Radio Tamazuj.

A resident of Gabat on the eastern bank of the Nile said that they have seen many bodies floating on the river. The sightings have been less frequent since fighting in the capital eased, but are still continuing.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, an eyewitness who visited the area to check on his family since the fighting broke out in the town said that he too saw five bodies being taken by the water northward.

“It is not good to see what I saw – five bodies taken away by running water,” he said. “I cannot tell if the bodies were for soldiers or civilians.”

Former South Sudan Vice-President Riek Machar has said rebel troops have captured the key oil-producing state of Unity and control much of the country.

Mr Machar also confirmed to the BBC that the forces fighting the government were under his command.

Sudan is a nation long ago chosen to be destabilized by American interest in the region--for this reason the Arabs were hired (and armed) as mercenaries to murder the Dinka, when prior to that they traded togther in cattle, horses, etc.

Puppet government is placed through "democratic" means in a voting "Republic."

Military is armed to support puppet government; U.S. military and/or NATO/U.N. base established, civilians come to prop up control of resources (in this case, oil).

Resource is pirated, people in the nation suffer under rule of greedy government which grows on the profit like a parasite. In order to maintain control, violence grows, poverty ensues.

Tribal groups and general populace become disgruntled, until finally, shit hits the fan.

Puppet Government is eventually toppled by people's militia and everything is blamed on "tribal disputes" in the media.

General chaos ensues as militia fires on U.S. military aircraft attempting to evacuate civilians (14,000 is alot of civilians in Sudan).

Eventually, things quiet down as members of the newest regime emerge to become leaders and tribal leaders become officials. Officials are bribed.

Puppet government emerges. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Kerry sends envoy to South Sudan as violence grows

- U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is sending a special envoy to South Sudan following an escalation of violence in the world's newest nation.

Ambassador Donald Booth, the special envoy to Sudan and South Sudan, headed to the area Friday.

"Now is the time for South Sudan's leaders to rein in armed groups under their control, immediately cease attacks on civilians, and end the chain of retributive violence between different ethnic and political groups," Kerry said in a statement. "The violence must stop, the dialogue must intensify."

Also on Friday, National Security Adviser Susan Rice recorded an audio message to the people to South Sudan.

"I ask each of you to make the choice for peace -- make the choice for a unified and cohesive South Sudan," she said. "Make this choice for yourselves and your children."
