It's where strong winds pick up dry dust, carry the dust to where rain is falling, and the dust mixes into the rain and falls as a sort of mud. There's a lot of red dirt here in Texas, so that's not unusual, and we just had a cold front go through that had wind and then rain and then more wind, perfect conditions for dust rain. Which means that wherever the wind picked this dust was picked up from has a high iron content. If you are near and waste dumps that would explain it. I wouldn't go outside without a mask if the red dust is still out there, iron oxide is very dangerous to humans. |
