OMG. Johnny Cash's version on NIN's "Hurt" is one of my favorites. What she does with both versions is surreal. She starts of with NIN's then blends into Cash's version, then NIN then Cash. Very powerful.

Does she provide the musical score for this anywhere on her channel?

Is this her own arrangement?

Actually, I should have said on any other of her social media sites, not her youtube channel. The basic chord structure is easy enough to see from the video, but it's hard to grasp the particular arrangement.

That was awesome. I have to agree with you that it wasn't perfect, but it was only a few notes in the beginning that I would change. I could really hear floyd through most of it, I'm truly impressed.

She has most all of her arrangements their in links for a donation (no set price) She also says in one of her videos that you can use her music for what you like but to please give her credit somewhere (in the credits for example).

Found this one on Roland (piano etc. maker) YouTube website and figured I'd add it here. Motorhead's "Ace of Spades" It REALLY shows the speed of her hands amazing!

Side note. Love the metal-heads in the audience getting off on her playing, LOL.

Vika is pretty rad, some of her stuff covering classic songs is a bit hit and miss, that being said some rock/metal songs that i didnt think were that great, but are nevertheless well known are amazing when she does piano covers of them.

She was a concert pianist though and has amazing talent for this, and is an inspirational youtuber.

Better than all these idiots who post videos talking about celeb bullshit.

Watching and listening to her videos on occasion has helped massively with my piano playing.

You guys should check out her cover of pink floyd echoes, its by far her best cover of a floyd track

She does some weird things sometimes whereby she messes about with notes and the way they are played. Its not what your ear expects, but it is deliberate IMO.

It sounds like she threw an accidental out of tune note in or something, its just her personality in her playing. She is classically trained and watching her do runs of fast phrases and techniques show she can play better than 99.99% of people will ever play piano.

Lots of musicians kind of play slightly different notes in a chord or phrase to give it an unresolved feel.

Yeah, I read somewhere she started with classical and did the metal/rock covers when she got older. Now it pays the bills (I hope)!
She's been playing since she was really little. Check out this one of her back in 1988. It looks like Kiev was a little lacking in technology back then LOL.

A good example is listening to her play something that has no room for experimentation with the notes/chords. She doesn't do the weird thing she does when she throws in strange notes then.



That sounds pretty damn close to what i expect chopins noct op 9 to sound like.



Her flight isnt perfect, but thats a piece that is exceptionally hard to play at that standard.

Id buy a CD of weird jazz like this, because thats the only thing i can call it, i think its amazing.

Aye, im a fan, but have never bothered commenting on her youtube videos or anything, i have watched most of them over the years though, helped me learn a lot.

This might be the year i actually sit and practice reading though, playing by ear/feel can be limiting. Need to sit and just do techniques over and over for hours at my piano too.

Sometimes it has the opposite effect on me. Makes me feel like chucking it all in cos I'm crap compared...oh yes.

There are better professional classical players, that being said i love her taste in rock/metal as its exactly the same as mine and i find her playing inspirational and love it to bits.

I love it too. There's nothing like a real piano to bring out the notes how they should be heard.
I like so much of her stuff but the first Floyd video was the one that caught my attention.

Valentina Lisitsa does that to me, piano talent like that is one in millions.

Hate and love her at the same time. Here are a few videos of her making a crappy old paris subway/airport piano sing like a concert piano.




The final straw, her playing la campanella on an out of tune street piano.



No doubt somebody will be in this thread saying lang lang is better. These are shitty pianos, she tears shit up on a bossendorfer.

They are all usually her own arrangements, she provides some of them for free, but wants small donations for the others.

It helps if you can get the original scores for the tunes she is covering and then have a good listen to her version and work out what she is doing.

She often kind of accents/weird notes the vocal parts in songs to give it feel.

I'll listen to them all shortly. Just busy juggling different things here at the moment.
