There's a run on Iodine right now because a bunch of fearmongering about Fukushima. It's always the same, a bunch of unfounded fears leads to big profits from whoever's selling the cure-all.

Jesus, enough with the fucking disinfo. Taking Iodine pills only protects you from Iodine-131, a fission byproduct with a half life of 8 days.

In two months, the I-131 from Fukushima would be at 0.4% of it's original radioactivity level. Half lives work exponentially, so at this point I would need to use scientific notation to represent how un-radioactive any Iodine from there would be today.

Once fission stops (which it did), no further I-131 is created. Even if there was, by the time it made it to the west coast there would not be much radioactivity left.

I work for a pharmaceutical distributor. Neither us nor any of the manufacturers I've seen have had any sort of stocking or manufacturing backorders. He's playing you for a sale.

Making people panic and take Iodine could cause real damage.

There are plenty of dangers from Fukushima but taking Iodine won't protect you from any of them and could cause harm.

I remember in march 2011 right after the japan EQ, those packs of iosat tablets you can buy for 10 bucks at cvs were selling for up to 500 on ebay...just a few weeks prior i almost bought some for the B.O.B. but hesitated...lesson learned: don't hesitate on preps cause ya never know

In the drugstore they have tincture of iodine. Do not drink it. Applied topically it is ok and if you only have that paint a square foot of skin and your body will pull iodine in.

People do NOT take this stuff regularly, it will mess you up. This is an EMERGENCY ONLY dosage for a nuclear disaster and it doesn't mean the faraway Fukushima variety. Read up on it and know what you're putting in your body.
