It will be interesting to see if our pipes will handle this deep freeze. We RARELY get any kind of real cold here. Sometimes it will drop down to single digits, but the negative temps that will last for more than 24 hours is unheard of in this area. So, Madrid fault issue plus the water pipe potential freeze. Fingers crossed people - that doom is cancelled in our area. |

Pacific historically most active so logical most activity is there. For sometime now Russia, Japan, Indonesia and South America most active with Volcanic activity releasing pressure from expansion. North America increased low frequency Earthquakes with the various plates building pressure. Pressure release results in booms, cracks, escapes of gasses and static electricity. Should volcanic activity cease in aforementioned zones then logical to expect massive build up of pressure on North America resulting in large Earthquakes with knock on effect to adjacent American plates. Booms etc. are the low end events of pressure release. Watch for reduction of volcanic activity in existing active zones. This will signal build up of pressure for the whole of North America. |

If you break my wings, I will just find a cloud and learn to fly again. The Lord will catch you when you fall or teach you to fly! May the footprints I leave lead you to BELIEVE. |

I believe it is due to tectonic pressure creating electro-magnetic energies. If so, California may experience a significant one very soon. [link to www.newsmax.com] |
SolitaryWildFlower User ID: 1285865 United States 01/05/2014 01:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Not my thread but titled "Frost quakes hit Ontario" by DoorBert (thanks) Technically called "Cryoseism" [link to en.wikipedia.org] A cryoseism, also known as a frost quake,[1][2] may be caused by a sudden cracking action in frozen soil or rock saturated with water or ice.[3] As water drains into ground, it may eventually freeze and expand under colder temperatures, putting stress on its surroundings. This stress builds up until relieved explosively in the form of a cryoseism.[4] Another type of cryoseism, known as an ice quake, is a non-tectonic seismic event caused by sudden glacial movements. This movement has been attributed to a veneer of liquid water which may pool underneath a glacier sourced from surface ice melt. Hydraulic pressure of the liquid can act as a lubricant, allowing the glacier to suddenly shift position.[5][6] This type of cryoseism can be very brief, or may last for several minutes.[7] The requirements for a cryoseism to occur are numerous, therefore acurate predictions are not entirely possible and may constitute a factor in structural design and engineering when constructing in an area historically known for such events.[3] Speculation has been made between global warming and the frequency of cryoseisms.[7] Not a long wiki page but definitely worth reading the entire thing. again, OP I see the sadness behind the smile. |

Make sure crawl spaces under your house are sealed up properly. |

That's just the narrative they have created to cover up the truth. I felt these "frost quakes" here in Toronto. It was booming all night. It was truly bizzare and scary. The windows in my room were rattling and shaking the way they do when there is a massive windstorm and yet there was ZERO wind outside. I doubt "frost" expanding underground was shaking my windows. They say this is normal...yet it's rare and nobody has ever heard of it before. We have winter ever year...how come nobody has ever experienced this before? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26803844 Cryoseisms also known as Frost Quakes are very common here in Northern Canada. They are uncommon in Southern Canada but do happen with sudden drops in temperature. expect it to be the norm as the Sun shuts down as it has before. |
