You can't live without it long at all and it is always fouled when things go south. well.. metal trashcan is something i have to buy, large bird cages i have more than enough here? of course, water - i won´t forget that, prepped that way. but: stay put (city) when reading about a 3hrs old cme or head out to a better prepped place I own (country) - when it´s a 2hrs long ride there ? Any cookie tins leftover from the holidays? Line them with something like cardboard, cloth, etc. Put in center, lowest part of your dwelling.
