If you think of Syria, as a country, what is the crux of your understanding about it? Now think about Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Kazakhstan.. Real places! Think about things that happen there, and what its like. You should have the feeling you don't care about Syria when the news comes on, but you don't know why that is.

Both Syria and Iraq were created out of Arab and Kurdish provinces in the Ottoman Empire by the fiasco in Versailles, 1919. They started off as League of Nations mandates. In that respect, OP is right. Neither the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, or India ratified that treaty or joined the League of Nations. If Britain, France, and the Central American Republics want to fix the mess, they should go for it and leave the rest of us out of it. Otherwise, they should just let the people of those regions sort it out without for themselves.
