Message Subject If poor people don't contribute to the economy at all, why do we still keep them alive?

I don't get it.

Poor people hardly earn enough in their lifetimes to contribute to consumerist economy, let alone government taxes.

They sure don't create jobs.

And yet the government spends billions to keep millions of people alive on welfare.

Why keep them alive in misery for the rest of their lives?

Wouldnt it be more humane if we just eliminated the poor from the face of the earth?

The reason the government spends that money is basically buying votes. I don't think poor people should be killed, but we shouldn't spend soo much on these welfare programs. The poverty level is the same now as it was back when they started these programs. The war on poverty is a farce.

If the poverty level remains the same, maybe even higher today, why to they continue? To buy votes.

Churches and charities can do far more, with far less than the government ever could/would.

If we did not have the welfare programs, the poor would work!

One of the most Biblical churches I know of has a principle that, when needy come calling with their hand out, if that person is able bodied, they offer payment for work around the church or payment for work at or around the homes of the church's disabled/ elderly. The great majority of the beggars who come calling refuse to do the work and go away empty-handed.
