Democrats and Republicans are at it again...this time playing around with the American unemployment benefits.

I am really upset to hear this, but I am not surprised!

Republicans say they will not vote to extend the jobless benefits, unless Democrats can offset this with other cuts in spending. They will not increase the budget deficit.

Well,that is just fine dandy if you are a rich politician; however, if you are one of the many unemployed Americans, it is will be HELL.

They depend on these benefits to feed their families. They recieve around $300 a week, and they began to see their checks disappear at the end of December. The benefits have not been extended for the year of 2014.

To add to the chaos, many key voters have not been able to make it to Washington because of the weather.

I pray this issue gets resolved soon, and that our leaders play around with THEIR money...NOT the money of jobless Americans!

Again, people say disabled who can't take care of themselves and are reliant on others to get food or do anything "don't deserve any financial assistance because "they are useless eaters" and it doesn't matter if at ONE time or most of their lives they were productive AND PAYING IN AND PAYING TAXES. The second you become LEGITAMATELY disabled and cannot take care of yourself you are a "useless eater." Suddenly the people who declared disabled "leaches" are in the SAME position except they can actually have a life. Sorry, I don't feel sorry for people. No one forced them to have children or lifestyles they coudn't afford.

Save the Karma tripe for those who think milking the system is a legitimate career strategy. If people would put the same effort into finding a job and earning an honest living as they put into scamming the system and coming up with clever ways of getting paid for doing nothing then we would have an unemployment rate of about zero.

I think an explanation is in order. Unemployment is NOT welfare. The amount you draw is determined by how long you were employed. For the first several weeks, that amount is drawn from a non-refundable account paid into by your former employer. After that, Gov't monies subsidize the extended benefits.

So, the initial unemployment period isn't on 'your precious tax dollars', it comes from businesses. After that, it does dip into tax money. I know this as a business owner myself.

More, you must be 'approved' for unemployment insurance. If you are lazy, if you quit your job or if you got fired for a fire-able offense, you CAN NOT draw unemployment and most likely WILL NOT be approved for it. I've sat in on my share of unemployment hearings and I can tell you that MOST do not get approved.

May those of you judging hard working Americans who lost their jobs due to a terrible economy or a corporate raid lose your jobs and have to walk a mile or two in their shoes.

I know several people who would MUCH rather be working than drawing a check but they aren't because they can't. There are hardly any jobs and the few that exist are applied for by thousands of people.

I agree, it should be paid for. I think everything spent should be 'paid for', but money is wasted everyday on things that don't matter a whit. We're talking about the well-being of unemployed, hard working Americans. It isn't time for debate. It's time to help. Debate the silly spending on things like money overseas and studies on whether or not pizza burns the roof of your mouth. Where was Mitch when that shit got approved?

Indefinite extension of welfare does nothing but create dependence and a sense of entitlement. At some point you have to stop giving people fish for a day and insist that they learn to fish on their own for a lifetime.

It is more cruel to enable addicts than to take the drugs away. It is more cruel to enable the loss of freedom and independence than to encourage self sufficiency by leaving in place the realities of life.

It is noble to help the needy for a time. It is wrong to string them along in a make believe land of perpetual dependence on others.
