Sandy Hook: What gunman took Kaitlin Roig's cellphone?

I think it's looking more and more like Roig called Vest during the incident.

Acc. to 00098615, a friend of Vest called Newtown at 2:03 p.m. December 15th to report that Vest said Roig had told him she "heard gunshots" and that there was a substitute teacher next door to her who was "fumbling for keys in an emergency folder."

To me, "told him she heard gunshots" sounds like something you'd say when you're hearing them, you know? I mean, if you walked out of the worst school massacre in recent history, would you tell the story to an old friend as "I heard gunshots?"

I don't know. Just sounds to me like an as-it's-happening type phone call, especially when you add the part about someone fumbling with keys.

Also, doesn't this sound again as if Roig may be in the wrong room?

Remember that she's listed as being in Room 10 in that recent inventory doc we were discussing; and now she refers to a substitute teacher "next door" fumbling for keys. I suppose next door could mean several doors down, but it's curious.

The blueprint of the school I posted yesterday (of the north hall) didn't seem to show any difference whatsoever between Rooms 8 and 10 vs. the other rooms, i.e. it's been claimed all rooms had connecting doors to the rooms next to them with the exception of Rooms 8 and 10 which supposedly had no connecting door.

Also, to be very honest, "fumbling for keys" sounds like something she SAW.

If she just heard about it later, why would she say the teacher was "fumbling for keys?" She'd have no idea if the person was fumbling for them, or just didn't have time to pull them out, etc.

For some time I have pictured Roig being in Room 8 for whatever, and racing back toward her own Room (whether that was Room 10 or Room 12) as things erupted. It's entirely possible she actually saw Rousseau fumbling for keys.

I'm still struck by her statement "...my heart goes out to anyone who knew them."

It really seems to me that when you're speaking of people you personally see every day, and whose parents you see often, you'd say "everyone who knew them."

"Anyone who knew them" sounds like you're talking about something that happened to people you don't know, imo.

Small point, I guess. But yet another discomfiting Sandy Hook oddity.

I'm kinda stuck on a few things:

How did Roig convinced LE, in the midst of such chaos, to search for her phone.

From police accts, she was literally hysterical so why did they believe her and begin a manhunt?

They obviously believed that there could be more shooters or she saw shooters or her phone was taken from her hands.

Why did she call "Vest" and why did his friends think LE should be notified of her story?

I don't think we heard the entire reason for why he was contacted and what she told him. Friends don't contact police if they hear a story about a friend being in a shooting unless there was some pretty compelling info not already being reported...like maybe the gunman stole my friends phone for example?

Why hasn't she ever mentioned it in any interview?

It would have made her more of a hero and now someone uncovered she remembered she ran out to get her phone when there was a break in the shooting...was she told not to talk about that? I would have told reporters my phone was missing or stolen and LE was searching for it....kinda important!

So why does it seem like everyone is shifted over one room?

In 00014533, page 4, Rachel D'Avino's jacket, cell phone and keys were in Room 6 (should have been Room 8)

Page 7, which seems to be a school directory showing room assignments, "Roig, K" is listed in Room 10, as is Soto.

In fact, there is no Room 12 listed at all.

One article says that she was in the hall and ran into her room, maybe a few of them were in hall chatting? But I agree, it sounds like she saw her fumbling....

I also don't get all the teachers and parents who supposedly were entering the school late or for the gingerbread event all oblivious to the shot out window and rapid gun fire....

I know the LE reports are extremely difficult to read and keep track of but I swear they all seem to state the wrong room to me, they don't even seem to know but I could be getting it all confused.....

Also, there are several mentions in the report whether info for Rooms 8 and 10 are switched--several times, Room 10 is reported as the one with the children in the bathroom, and the shooter is down in Room 8.

Also, there's that early mention of bodies found in the "first three classrooms."

Also, the Barth child (Roig's room) stated that "bullets came in the window" and that was the first thing that happened.

Roig also says multiple times, "We're the first classroom, so I thought we were next."

Yet she says she had no idea where the shooting is taking place, heard no screaming, and can't tell if the shooting is in the hall or the lobby.

But she says "next" as if she's aware of the concept of a shooter going from room to room. I find that curious.

She claims to have no knowledge, during the event, that shooters were even in any classrooms.

But she said, "We're the first classroom, so I though we were next," and "Why isn't he coming to our room??"

Granted, after the fact, your mind starts to piece together the knowledge of that moment with later knowledge. But...

You know what, think about the Courant's statement again:

"The call did not come from Roig's room."

They did NOT say the call didn't come from Roig.

Well--if she says a shooter has it, they will definitely want to look for it in hopes of also finding the shooter.

Even if he just dropped it somewhere, there could be a print or DNA.

Yeah--the Roig story is messed up any way you look at it.

It's been brought up before that there's this odd comment on the police radio about 18 "victims" in the kitchen. I realize that he was most likely talking about another group of surviving students who had hidden in the kitchen, but I still have moments where I wonder if that's where most of the shooting actually took place, especially when we come across these questions about where each teacher was located.

Anything's a possibility, although the dispatcher did say in regard to the victims in the closet that he would "give 'em a call to let 'em know you're coming" when it was time to let them out.

I have wondered for some time whether the killing took place in the kindergarten section in Vollmer's hallway; one cop reported "kindergarteners shot right where they sat in their desks", and Vollmer's section of the building was razed first.

They could have decided early on to switch the killing to a different area of the building to draw away attention and allow them more leeway with fudging evidence, since it all looked so bad, and there would have been no doubt some kind of panic at keeping control over the scene, and over the final story.

"Barricaded in a kindergarten class with children" and "erupted in a kindergarten room" keeps ringing in my ears.

I'm not sure about Roig and Soto, but Room 6 might have been considered D'Avino's "home base" since she was an assistant for a special needs student, and Room 6 was a special education room.

I find that very curious too! Why would she assume that shooter or shooters would be going into rooms?

What's missing from the Final Report?
The kitchen and boiler room, hardly any pics or videos of the area at all unless I missed something?

I think the actual "victims" if there were any would be easier to manage there with no windows. Nobody could see that side of the school. With the chain cut theway out via Crestwood would be an easy escape route, just leave before the cops arrive.

Curious that she knows the attackers behavior and intention. Maybe it was someone that threatened her, another reason the police would really want that phone.

When Roig says "morning meeting", what exactly does that mean? The way she was describing it, it sounds like she was always in room 12. It doesn't sound to me like she was originally in a different room.
Does a "morning meeting" mean with other teachers? Or just with her kids? I would think a "meeting" means having a talk with other adults or teachers.
